Airline Review Magazine - Anyone Seen It?

Tue Jan 07, 2003 1:46 pm

Has anyone in the U.S. seen the first issue of Airline Review magazine? According to the magazine's website, the first issue is supposedly on sale, but I haven't seen it in any bookstores. Also, still have yet to receive my "free trial issue." If anyone has a copy of the magazine, how did you get it, and how is it?

Hello,

I can confirm that the magazines have now definitely been sent out and are transiting through the postal system. Airline Review is currently available through http://www.airline-review.com and not in news stands for the present time (though that may change).

Articles in the January Issue include:

- American Trans Air
- Qantas
- Airline Cargo
- The Boeing 777
- Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport
- Industry Outlook

IMHO, the design is absolutely excellent and I am sure you will agree.

Just curious if anyone got it yet? It will take a few more days to reach me here in Ireland but surely the American postal system is more efficient?

Hi,

got this message in my mailbox last Tuesday:

Dear Airline Review subscriber,
As Editor, I must sincerely apologize for the delay in shipping out your copy of the premier issue of Airline Review. If you have not already received your complementary issue, you should be receiving it shortly as it is probably in the mail. Every new venture is not without its hurdles. As a result, I will be mailing you February's issue free of charge as we are now on track to produce the best Civil Aviation magazine around. You'll also notice that February's issue will be printed on a higher quality paper than the first issue was. We intend to use this paper on an ongoing basis to ensure the sharp photo images that our readers desire. Thank you for your understanding and patience. I look forward to your support. Read and enjoy!

I got the same letter, as did friends in Russia.

But I had to laugh at this:

You'll also notice that February's issue will be printed on a higher quality paper than the first issue was.

Well actually, I won't notice it, because I haven't received the first issue, and I can't email anyone else to compare, because no-one else I know has received their issue either.

This whole "Airline Review" sounds to me like a scam. Has anyone heard of this
Phillip Birtasevic before? Or what about "Airline Press, Inc". Is there such a company?

I have not received the first complimentary issue or an email....

However....

A friend of mine in Florida actually got it earlier this week. He said he wasn't too impressed by it. To him it is a US version of Airliner World. He also said some of the photography and writing left something to be desired.

Still I'd like to see for myself.

Nothing from this corner of Florida, neither magazine nor e-mail.

From what I remember, most of the early research regarding ATA was done in this very forum. Phillip Birtasevic is a.net member AirReview, it seems? I only go back until August with my a.net participation, but I think I saw his first interest in ATA. Were other articles researched similarly?

I really don't know what to say re the magazines. I can only say what I was told, that they were sent out quite a while ago. I have no reason to believe it isn't true but I admit that I have no proof.

Fpdonald, it wasn't him who wrote the ATA article. AFAIK, he was searching for background information before approaching the company on behalf of the writer.

BTW, I do not represent Airline Review or any associated entities.

I got the magazine in the mail today (I am in WI). I am not impressed with it at all, it is in my opinion not worth the subscription price. There are way better magazines out there then this one.

I got my issue in Miami last week. Overall, it's okay. It is no Airliners World (my personal favorite), but informative. It's the first issue, though, so thing can only get better.

As we stated in our email to the people who ordered January's issue, the paper that the first issue was printed on is not the one we are going to use from now on, so we are sending the next issue for free so you can enjoy this and other significant improvements.
Like fine wine, we will get better with age.
Postal delays are out of our control.

Read and Enjoy.

I recieved my copy out here in Seattle today as well, and it was pretty darn good for a new magazine. Great ATA and DFW articles. I look forward to great things from the publication, but until they are excellent consistently, I'm not going to subscribe. Great start however!

I got one yesterday here in North Dakota.. Also got another one of the same issue today  Confused.. Maybe I'll get another issue every day!  Nuts

As far as the magazine goes, I'd say its pretty late on all the "news" in there this time around but overall I would say it has potential in the future.

I'll wait until the next issue to judge it as this one seems to be quite rushed.

Hi folks...
Just got my issue in today's mail. (2/04) Not had a chance to read just yet, but it's looks promising. Glossy papers & centerfold of all of ATA's fleet of aircrafts over the years. Just on that alone, I think it will succeed.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

It's Not Bad, But...

Wed Feb 05, 2003 10:02 am

I received mine (in Orlando) last week, and it wasn't bad. I imagine that it is painfully difficult to get a new magazine off the ground and there is a great deal of potential. As a former journalist myself, I caught several "typos" and there were a couple of pictures that seem "cut off." But it sounds as if the editor is dedicated to excellent coverage of the airline industry. I would consider susbscribing, but that's only after reading a couple of more issues.
