Crew Rest Requirements

As to the location of crew rest facilities for pilots, whether they be bunks or actual seats, is there a requirement that they be within X amount of feet of the cockpit, or theoretically could they be placed anywhere?

Crew rests? What are they?

Oh one of those things I dream about on an 11 hour flight to Cancun...? Even a seat in the cabin would be nice.... Big grin
I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...

So adding onto that post, are crew rest breaks even required by law, or just by union/airline contracts?

Not sure, I think the regulations probably are different with each country and the policy is likely different within each airline. I know some airlines simply have some seats in the cabin for use as crew rest but aircraft like the 777 and A340 have bunks.

I don't know of any requirement for the rest area to be close to the flightdeck (since the relief crew is flying anyway it is not an issue). In fact some of the rest seats I have seen are in the rearmost rows of the cabin.

Under UK regulations we do not require crew rest within our airline as our longest flight is 11 hours (LGW-CUN) and a 2-man crew can be on duty for 13.25 hours which covers that entire flight. There is no 2-man crew flight time limit like the FAA mandate (8 hours?).
