Up To 12 United B744s To Thai?

Thu Jan 09, 2003 6:59 pm

Hi All,

First, I have 100% ABSOLUTLY CONFIDENCE ON UA will survive, I am not just talking here, I am supporting UA in action as buying UA ticket to fly in Feb03 (PEK-NRT-LAX-JFK-SEA-NRT-PEK) after just did UA 10 legs to South America via Miami and LAX from SYD (F class all the way cost me $6500) in Dec02.

Today, I went to UA SYD ticket office, have a chat with a few friends there as usual, they told me UA have made a deal with Thai, sold up to 12 of their 44 strong B747-400 to Thai, about less than half of a new B747 value! Those many B747 are parked in Victorville, CA. My friend Royal S. King have seen 8 of them in Dec there and he has a picutre

The ridiculous thing on Thai is, they will not use UA F class sleeper seats and C class seats, instead they will put on their own 'ancient' and 'very mechanical' F/C seats....shame....otherwise they are beautiful machine to fly!

Well, I hope this is true, and UA can get some of the urgently needed cash, instead of selling routes...I hope they will keep Transpacific and Transatlantic route, dump the already retrenched South American route first if needed, In TransPacific route, the whole market needs UA and supports UA, UA needs to be there to be healthy.

Finally, I will be very sad and angry if those machinists kill UA. I think they have gone way too far last time.

Anyone can confirm this Thai-United 747 deal? I see it is win-win to both as UA don't need them, Thai need to update their fleet.

Proud UA flyer as always!
Sam

If TG really get these 12 UA 744s, I wonder if this means they will not get those rumoured A340s?

As for the premium class seats, maybe they weren't included in the deal? Probably too expensive for Thai to buy the seats and associated equipment as well.

12 UA 744s going to Thai? I thought they were going to buy 7? That's quite a capacity increase for TG but what better way to expand their fleet than to buy inexpensive recently-built aircraft that's probably going to cost around half the price of new planes & they're also apparently planning to expand their presence in the US (they only fly to LAX) & in other regions.

UA could certainly use the cash.
