As Jeff correctly points out, we'd know about any airline development at MHT on our Yaho Group long before it appeared in the local newspaper, Manchester Airport's own web site, or even here on a.net for that matter.
Icelandair is parking a 757 here for 3-4 days each week because it's probably less costly to do so. Icelandair's station manager at BOS accompanied the 757 (TF-FIN) on its inaugural 60-mile flight here, Christmas week, and noted to one of our Group members (who helped park the plane) that he's pretty fed up with Massport and Logan. I think it's a big stretch to expect that Icelandair will start serving MHT, even with those comments, but it does help add ammunition for carriers wishing to start service here. Our main Runway 17/35 will open at 9,250 feet this summer, and I have to believe a smart European tour operator would make a good business decision by operating flights into MHT. In the summer, holiday makers like to visit Boston; in the winter they could visit the mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont to ski. With the excellent exchange rate, a family would do better to come to New England to ski rather than the 'short' trip to Switzerland. No, we don't have the Swiss Alps (or even the Rockies), but I'll bet summer and winter charters would succeed here. And for a bit of clever PR, I would love to report on the very first 'Manchester-Manchester' nonstop; we could call it 'Man-United!'
