Does Delta Fly 777s Into SLC?

Fri Jan 10, 2003 12:49 pm

I thought I saw one when I was there in November, but I was too far away to tell for sure.

Does Delta fly the Triple-7 into SLC? And if so, what route(s)?

Thanks!

Delta had their "Soaring Spirit" Olympic 777 in SLC once or twice for the Winter Olympics last year, but if it was more recent than that, then it was probably a 767-400, which Delta flies to SLC regularly. The 767-400 looks similar to the 777 and can easily be mistaken for it, especially when there is no larger aircraft around to compare it to, as is the case at SLC where the 767-400 is the largest regular visitor. If you're positive it was a 777, then it may have been a charter or equipment substitution.

well, the plane I saw could have been a 764, it was in the newer, but pre-Deltaflot, colors.

Does Delta have any 777s in this color scheme? I had spent the weekend shooting pictures, including quite a few 764's, and this plan seemed quite a bit larger, but I was at a distance, coming out of downtown on the freeway, towards the airport.

There are no DL 764s in pre-Deltaflot colors. DL didn't start taking possession of the 764s until after the scheme change. You probably saw a 777 or 763.

Unless they've very recently repainted them, there ought to be some 764's in the 1997 scheme. Some were definetley delivered in that scheme. According to a.net, as of November 2002, at least N828MH and N826MH in the scheme...

so it was possible you saw a 764.

Oh - and as for the 777's, there are some in both schemes

Ship #s 7001/2/3/6/7 -1997 scheme
Ship #s 7004/5/8 - 'Deltaflot'

cheers, Phil.

My apologies.

826 and 828 are the only 764's in the older colors.

ATL2CDG - my apologies - it wasn't my intention to prove you wrong. You are right though about them reveiceing them after the change of scheme (which is also true for some 763s and 772s) and I'm curious why this was the case. Does changing a livery take some time when it comes to manufacturing? Were these a/c already being manufactured?

cheers, Phil.

They're not going to spend the money to change a perfectly fine livery until they have to. Most likely, all the aircraft which are currently in 1997 livery will be repainted to "Colors in Motion" once they are stripped of their paint during heavy maintenance/inspection. That could be a few years down the road yet.
