Air France's 744s

Thu Nov 11, 1999 8:45 am

I am wondering if anyone can answer this question. I flew Air France back in 1993, CGD - LAX and LAX - CDG. I SWEAR they had Rolls-Royce RB211 engines, but I keep hearing that AF's planes are GE-powered. I recognise the RB211 on the wing because of its distinctive nacelle and pointed spinner. GE engines have a fat nacelle with a tapered exhaust.

Anyone know if AF did indeed operate RR-powered 744s? Thanks!

hey great question, i have an idea why don't you look on Air France's homepage and look up on their aircraft fleet section. it will probably tell you there. try it!

Absolutely not. The only AF aircraft to ever fly with RR power is Concorde.

AF's Site

That was no good advice as AF's site does not list engine types.... like most airlines sites...
Otherwise, i have not been able to find the answer to your question, Ilyushin96M

RE: AF Pilots

Air France keeps there pilots really close to my pilot supply store. They are always in my store so one day I will ask them that and then we can have the truth from the people that know. I should be able to get them by Sunday, I had a AF FO in my store about 3 hours ago.

AF 744 Engines

Thu Nov 11, 1999 8:24 pm

Hello,

All 13 Air France's 747-400 are GE CF6-powered.
Only Concorde and Fokker 100 are RR-powered (the F100 are now operated by Gill Airways and Brit Air for AFR).

Best regards,
