Different Hawaiian Air Logos

Sat Jan 11, 2003 12:36 am

Hi everyone...here's some fun trivia that you may or may not know. When HA introduced the Pualani Island girl as the logo on the tail, the flower in her hair had six or seven dots in the center...later updates showed a star as the center of the flower and then a small blossom in the center...todays newest one shows nothing in the center...now here's my question. Which aircraft flew which logo? I am curious to find out if and HA people out there can clear this up for me...a buddy of mine brought it to my attention and it is really bugging me. Have fun.

Pecoua...

To my knowledge, the Pualani logo with "dots in the center" was the original Pualani logo designed for HA in the late 70's. That older logo was used on the Shorts 360, Dash 7, DC-9's, DC-8's and the L1011's. That logo was also used with the "Hawaiian Air" titles on the aircraft until the late 80's. The logo was changed to the more refined blossom that was seen on the DC-9's until retirement in 2001. The titles were also changed to just "Hawaiian" in a larger font size with the update in the logo. With the introduction of the 717 and 767, HA completely updated its colors to a modernized Pualani logo and new "Hawaiian" title font. I don't know what you mean by the "star as the center of the flower". That's about all I know from recollection so I could be wrong on the dates and stuff.

HA_DC-9 is correct that the Pualani with the dots in the hibiscus is the original Pualani and flew on the Shorts, Dash 7, DC-9, DC-8, and L1011.

To add more information, when HA got the DC-10, the Pualani with the star in the hibiscus made it's debut. This Pualani only flew on the DC-10-10 and didn't last very long. I believe it was only around for a year or so. The Pualani was then updated with the more defined hibiscus with nothing in the middle and the girl's face slight reshaped. This was on the DC-9 and DC-10-10 and DC-10-30. She then went through a major update changing Pualani from a silhouette of a young girl to a more mature and detailed Pualani for the 717 and 767.
