AeroMexico's lack of equipment is because of their owners (the government)... just like Rojo said. And I think the executives either Alfonso Pasquel or Fernando Flores can't do anything about it.
"but they couldn't for many reasons too long to detail in here"
Please, you leave us to know one more time the reality of our country. Also I would like to think that IB also adopt to stay at MIA instead of moving on to CUN because of the same reason?
I think that there are no expansion programs with lang haul routes from AeroMexico or Mexicana since these two airlines are but focused only to the regional transportation and that only includes the continent of America.
Main problem is the government, on Dec 13th from 2002, I had the chance to fly with Mexicana. In both legs I spoke with four different 757 pilots... I was told Mexicana had plans for introducing two 767s to the fleet, in Jul 02 they started the talks... Sep 02 they request to Mex and Deutsche governments for the approval of this new possible route (MEX-HAV-FRA-MEX)... Nov 02 it was schedule that two acfts arrived so they can have them ready for Dec 02 when it was supposed to start the route to FRA. But in Oct 02 Mexico's gov. denied the new route and they told MX to hold another year.... but I guess it's going to be late... LH in March or May is adding 3 more frequencies to MEX.
Additionaly MXA had plans to get 2 more 767s for a MEX-EZE-MEX with 767 and also they wanted to keep the MEX-CUN-EZE-CUN-MEX with a 757. But plans are definitely stopped.
Second time a 767 program in Mexicana is cancelled. First program was a bit closer, in fact XA-TNS (right now with AMX) got into MXA's maintenance facilities right after arriving from TransBrasil in finals 1998. It went to MX's hangar paint... it was all white with titles only... there were waiting only for orders to pain MX tail on it... but suddenly a change of plans happened, for some reason AM return XA-RKI and then XA-TNS went to AMX's fleet., definitely a CINTRA movement.
. That 767 was really nice.. a friend of mine showed me some pictures that I would like to share with you... but I doubt he would like to borrow that valuable stuff.
The only good thing is that they are planning to get another 757 for a total of 10. Replace the current 5 727s with 6 320s, they want to get a total of 30-320s.. about the 319s they got all ready 10 and they are expecting 2 more. Probably a new Airbus order of 12-318s is coming for the replace of the 12 F100s. While this 10 F100s will move to AeroCaribe. MX got plans to emerge CBE. Also CBE is looking for a new acft for regional service.... they are in search for the best option of a 50 seat capacity acft.
Changing the subjet, In my flight back to Mexico, it was a coincidence that one pilot I spoke has a brother flying the 767 in AeroMexico, he told me some aggressive plans.. increasing frequencies to some South America destinations.... and plans of a new route to Europe which is: Italy... for sure MXP or FCO. But plans are stopped since government told them to hold also.. that's why no more 767s are seen in AMX's fleet. Finally, a friend told me AM right now is focus and thinking in the new 737s only, arriving this October finally! After a loooong wait! Then in mid 2004 they will start plans for bringing more 767s... or they will start plans for the lease of the 764 from DL or the 777 from AF or any other possible option!
For now let see how goes the first months of this new year to all Mexican airlines.
I think a route to EZE from MEX should run quite well! "But tell that to whomever is in charge of running things in MEX and Cintra, who although have an ability to run things professionally, do not seem to have a vision" <----- Couldn't be better said.
