Bombardier Sells Three New Q Series Turboprops to Qantas

17:21 EST Friday, January 10, 2003

TORONTO, ONTARIO--Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Qantas Airways of Australia has placed a firm order for three new 50-seat Q300 Series turboprop airliners and has also purchased a 36-seat Dash 8(R) Q200 aircraft previously leased from Bombardier. Deliveries of the new Bombardier Q300 aircraft are scheduled for the second quarter of 2003.
Qantas will place the aircraft with its QantasLink regional network, which includes the Dash 8 operations of Eastern Australia Airlines and Sunstate Airlines.

With this order, the QantasLink Bombardier Aerospace fleet will consist of 32 aircraft, of which 12 are Q Series.

"We are delighted that Qantas has once again returned to Bombardier to fill its regional aircraft requirements," said John Giraudy, president, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. "Qantas' existing Dash 8 and Q Series fleet has proven to be reliable and passenger friendly. As importantly, the economics of the Q Series especially over short sectors makes this aircraft extremely competitive."

Scarcastic mode on :
"Great, wonderful, yippee! More new generation Caribou added to the QF fleet."
Scarcastic mode off.

Honestly I must be getting old as I used to enjoy flying on the Dash 8 but my fortnightly dose of a 1 hour 45 minute sector (usually followed by another 50 minute sector some months) on a Dash 8 is worse than getting teeth pulled (next one the day after tomorrow as a matter of fact). Don't look forward to it at all any more particularly with the QF/QFLink "Here have a Roll and a Drink and enjoy it" service. It's almost to the stage where I miss getting gassed on a 146 (I did say almost) which was at least quicker.

Obviously being in a dominant position QF isn't interested in replacing these modern day troop transports with any sort of regional jet.

I prefer props to jets just about any day myself. However I understand where you are coming from.
