Routes For LH A340-600's?

Sat Jan 11, 2003 7:29 pm

Does anyone have an idea on the delivery schedule for the Lufhansa A340-600's and what routes they are likely to serve?

Also what is the configuration for the aircraft, I've heard it will be a two-class layout. I also understand that LH have specified the underfloor galley option for their A346's. How much extra space does this create in the cabin?

i heard that one of the destinations might be SFO. well, would make sense since cargo plays a major role on the SFO flights. however, i´m puzzled why they would go for an A346 without first class (if they have only a two-class layout) since there´s quite a load of high-yield pax.

LH conducted a couple of route proving flights with an A346. among the destinations served were SFO and SIN. so could that be possibly an additional indication?

SAA is supposed to operate their A346s on the JNB-FRA runs, so perhaps LH is also considering assigning their A346s to JNB-CPT?

in addition, LH once mentioned that there are a couple of routes which don´t necessarily require a First Class service, and they´d be better of with only Business and Eco on a couple of routes. i believe one of the destinations mentioned was YVR. well, since it´s served by the only remaining 742s which offer only 8 First Class seats (744: 16 First Class) it may indicate that F is not as important on that sector > two-class A346s ???

so i´d go for SFO, JNB, YVR and possibly SIN as destinations served by the A346s. but who knows? i don´t.

If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

Oh, it will be cool if they can operate an extra flight into SIN with that 346! I'm dying to see the first 346 here!

I think it could be some time before LH flies to SFO using the A340-600.

Right now, I believe LH flies FRA-SFO using a 747-400 and MUC-SFO using an A340-300.

I doubt we'll see LH operating the A340-600 to HKG as loads between HKG & FRA are very high from what I've heard, that is, they'll probably stick with the 744. Unless they are planning on replacing some (older?) 744s with the A340-600?

YVR is yp there I would have thought but the time for a FRA-YVR-FRA rotation is probabarly close to 24hours so I would think the first routes will be East Coast USA perhaps?

Considering that Air Canada and Lufthansa are codesharing on the FRA-YVR route (just once daily ?!) using a B747-200, I see plenty of reasons for a capacity increase to a A340-600.

Air Transat and Condor are going to fill in the extra summer capacity demand on this route chipping away pax from LH/AC.

Also It's very likely to see travelers to and from Frankfurt/Vancouver going trough LHR (4 daily) or AMS(10 weekly) and then via a LCC to/from anywhere in Germany !

Will the biz class in the new 2-class A346s be an expanded offering, or just the normal LH biz class?

LH's A346 are supposed to offer an entirely new Y and C Class product.

I just saw on TV that LH made an A340-600 test-flight from FRA to SFO in the Airbus A340-600 House colores plane.
