Wow 3 AA 777s on that alone. Doesn't BA fly a 747 and VS as well?

Wouldn't that mean that they have cancelled a previous service to LHR? If that's the case, I'm curious as to which one they cancelled.

AA used to have three flights to LHR as well as one to LGW.

Remember when BOS-LON was served by TW, NW, and BA?!

I belive the canceled LHR flight you are referring to, CPH-R, is EWR-LHR.

Yeah, that's right. I can remember reading about the EWR-LHR route being slashed a while ago (though I find it odd... the lines at EWR (in my view) were so much shorter, when I visited NY, than they appear to be at JFK according to my Dad's horror stories - he's flown there on a variety of carriers over the years: Delta (waayyyy back when DL served CPH), Lufthansa, KLM, BA, AA etc.

This is what our summer BOS-LON schedule is shaping up to be now:

BA - 3x 777 LHR
AA - 3x 777 LHR
VS - 1x 744 LHR, 1x 744 LGW

I think UA might be bringing back LHR-BOS with a 763 as well. Quite a crowded market, only select cities (NYC, ORD, ATL) get more capacity than LON from BOS.

i doubt UA will come back. there's just too much competition and too many flights on that market i dont think there would be enough demand to support a 8th daily flight to London. As for ciites with large capacity to LON, BOS is probably in the top 3 with JFK and ORD. ATL only has 1 or 2 BA flts and i think 2 Delta flights both to LGW.

Boston is third. I do not think UA is coming back. In fact, I think that AA might have gotten this slot from UA, because they are the EWR-LHR flight is being replaced by an extra ORD-LHR flight.

New York City has the most capacity to London, followed by Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, Miami, and San Francisco. All have at least thrity-five weekly frequencies.

American dropped or is about to drop the EWR-LHR flight. I don't think three BOS-LHR frequencies will survive on AA. These will be cut back to two unless demand improves.

I agree with continentalEWR. Both DL and UA have pulled off BOS-LON routes, with UA having been on BOS-LHR since 1994, and DL being the largest carrier (in terms of pax) at BOS. If they can't do it, I don't think AA can pull off another flight, as it shows there is obvious overcapacity.

I think UA actually started their BOS-LHR flight in 1998, not 1994.

It's from EWR-LHR. ORD-LHR always increses in frequency during the summer.

Yes, but this year it is increasing by two flights. One slot that is seasonal and operates MIA-LHR during the winter, and another new year-round daylight service.

It's no wonder the EWR-LHR was dropped.

Personally, I really don't think this is a good idea.

First off, given the arrival time into BOS for AA95 (15:20). That's also the time that Air France and Delta's FCO service will arrive. INS in BOS is gravely understaffed, to the point that they can only process one flight every 20-25 minutes. I work for BA, and one day our flight arrived at 12:55, but were not able to begin offloading our pax until 13:40 because of a back-up in immigration. Can you imagine the waits if all three (AF 343/777, DL 763, and AA 777) show up at the same time?

Last Summer we at BA had 2 744s and 1 777. The preliminary timetables are showing 2 777s and 1 744, however our flights go out chokka, and it's quite possible that will be reverted back to last Summer's schedule. But, as of now the flights look like this

BA: 2 772s + 1 744
VS: 1 744 (LHR) + 1 742 (LGW)
AA: 3 772s

To me...that's a bit excessive. That's eight daily flights on nothing smaller than a 777. Even though our 772s only hold at max 224 passengers, that's still a lot of capacity.

There were five trips ORD-LHR last year too. Although AA would like for 66 and 67 to be all year, they only have slots for the summer season. Additionally, the fifth trip has its slots funded differently, but I can't remember specifically where it came from off the top of my head. FedEx rings a bell, but I'm not 100% sure. What I am 100% sure about is the fact that it didn't come from the EWR-LHR cancellation. EWR-LHR being canceled allows for BOS-LHR #3.

Well, I still don't think it will last. In the go-go 90's, American had three daily flights to London (2 to LHR, 1 to LGW) and that didn't work. The LGW route was dropped faster than it was started. I think American is hoping to capture some business from the defunct UA and DL routes, as someone has stated on a previous thread, but honestly, I think there is overcapacity in this market, especially with Virgin adding a second 744.
