Voice Recorder Airforce One

Tue Jan 14, 2003 4:46 pm

Hi all

Something really touchy  Sad :

Listen to National Archives audio
of ground-to-air communications between
Washington, D.C. and aircraft 972
carrying cabinet members to Japan and
Air Force One bringing JFK's body back
to the capital. The audio, which sat
largely unnoticed at the National
Archive for decades was tape recorded
by the Signal Corps at Andrews Air Force
Base. The ground-to-air communications
between the jet carrying Kennedy's casket
was designated simply as SAM 2-6000. It
would only become Air Force One once
the president was on board -- and at
3:38 EST that day, Vice President Lyndon
Johnson took the oath of office. Ten
minutes later, Air Force One began the
long trip back to the capital. Aircraft
972 was six hours behind.

I listened to it. Very interesting.
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.
