IMHO, they did the right thing... flat champagne is nothing to joke about...  Sad

Is this matter being reported to the French authorities?  Smile

Flat Champagne Raises Concern On Denver Flight
Northwest Airlines Attendant Reports Suspicious Substance

DENVER -- A suspicious substance reported on a Northwest Airlines flight that landed at Denver International Airport Monday evening turned out to be flat champagne.

A flight attendant on Northwest flight 1905 from Minneapolis/St. Paul had opened a bottle of champagne and noticed that it wasn't carbonated and had an unusual odor, said airline spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch.

"She became concerned and as a precaution alerted the local authorities, who investigated it and it turned out to be a bottle of flat champagne," Ebenhoch said.

The 120 passengers on the flight disembarked on schedule at DIA. The return flight was delayed by 16 minutes because of the incident, he said.

Airport spokesman Chuck Cannon said DIA operations employees contacted the Denver Police Department's crime lab unit and the FBI as a precaution

I don't think you need worry about any French champagne being served on a Northwest flight . . . and the poor air hostess is obviously no connoisseur.

My GOD, the horror of it!! FLAT sparkling wine??!? (trust me, it wasn't true Champagne). I shudder to think what will happen if and when a hot meal is served on a NW flight. I'm sure that will prompt an emergency landing and a dousing of foam by the fire department...

They should have bought the kind in the box. It never goes flat.

Ew, Korbel is nasty.

Does NW not serve real champagne? UA does, at least in Business. "Veuve Amiot", not horrible, but not so great.

I bet if the cork popped panic would have reigned as I am sure someone would have mistook it for a gunshot.

Fermented bovine piss (and the last time I checked, NWA was serving something that could qualify under that moniker) would probably fall under this category (i.e., uncarbonated and an unusual odor).  Yeah sure

FYI:

Northwest was rated the Number 2 "Wine Cellar in the Sky" of all International Airlines. I cannot recall who was number 1, Finnair sticks out in my mind for some reason, nor do I remember the source, but there was a post about it on here quite some time ago.

The poll was of most large international carrier's First / Business Class selections. Additionally, Northwest partnered with Food and Wine magazine to pick its selections to ensure a better choice for its passengers. They have also changed their coach wine from Turning Leaf to a slightly better wine. Forgive me, but I can't remember the name, but I know it's a Chilean wine.

Cheers!

Yes, but that's on their international flights. This was a domestic MSP-DEN run. I'm surprised there was any sparkling wine at all in the galley (I've asked for champagne before on domestic NW flights - no dice).

TWFirst;

You are correct in the fact they do not server Champagne / Sparking wine domestically, however the wine selection for international flights is the same that is available domestically in FC.
