777 At SFO Departing 1R 11/11/99...

....Help,,(this may have been discussed before..)
while videotaping at SFO today from the parking lot adjacent Airport Rd just off Millbrae Ave., UAL 777 (N796UA) was departing 1R just after noon,,,and I noticed that when the engines start to rev-up..they sound like they go off,,,then I hear a "Plink" noise, and then the engines rev-up and resume take-off power on departure. I have heard this many times before from the back of the A/C only at this same location. Can anybody give me a clue why this happens?

Forget the noice, you were lucky enough to be there when the planes were using 1r for departure! That never happens man.

...777 use 1R quite often......Also, I've noticed that 777 seemed to have compressor stall when departing 1R..say about 200 feet off the ground, 2 puff's of smoke will wisp behind the engines indicating compressor stall..and just when the gear start to retract,,2 more puff's of smoke will appears as the gear goes up, it seems to come from the wheel well area,,,,anybody have any ideas on this...?

Just FYI,
Optimum airport acceptance rate (AAR) at SFO is based on landing 28L and 28R, departing 01L and 01R. When SFO is off this configuration (only when wx, winds, etc. preclude it) big delays ensue.

The two puffs of smoke you see are not compressor stalls: it's the dust from the wheels, which are stopped from spinning just before the gear retracts. The777Man
