Am I the only person who's skeptical about Emirates's business plan?
They seem to want to make their country a main Asia-Europe hub, since there is no way Arabian peninsula traffic could support all the A380's they are ordering (and 777's also, I believe). They are betting against the growth of point to point traffic, and they are betting against regional hubs in places like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Many of these Asian hubs do still have allot of growth potential. When the European hubs run out of capacity, who's to say people wont just fly direct or change planes in Asia? The traffic Emirites is going for with this huge growth plan doesnt exist yet and even if it does grow to its full potential, there will be plenty of competition.
As a European or Asian businessman what sounds more exiting to you - Thailand or the UAE? Which is more stable, the Persian Gulf or Singapore? Where would you change planes?
Is this just an oil-subsidized, ego-boosting boondoggle or am I missing something?
