Why KLM 744 PH-BFI In HAM?

Tue Jan 21, 2003 5:56 am

Hello everyone,

today we had a special and rare guest here in HAM. A KLM B747-400 (PH-BFI) landed at Hamburg-Fuhlsbuettel. Inbound and Outbound Flight number KL838U. The plane landed at 5:45 a.m. and left Hamburg after fuel stop at 6:56 a.m.... Well I think it was going to AMS.

But why they have to stop in HAM, I think it's not usual that a long haul aircraft has not enough fuel on board. So, why can such things happen.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Oh, did anyone know where this flight came from? Maybe SIN?

Greetings
Tobi

Hi Tobi,

PH-BFI was in Singapore on the 19th January (pictured below!) and departed back to Amsterdam as flight KL838 in the late evening (Singapore time)...

It sounds like the flight was diverted to Hamburg on her way home then - not sure why though...

Hope that helps!

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

thanks for your help.

Anyone know why this flight was diverted to Hamburg?

Greetings

According to KLM/NWA timetable this flight should depart at 23:30 local time at SIN and arrive 5:50 at AMS (CET).

The plane was probably was in shortage of fuel due to a delay and had to refuel nearby, the flight to singapore usually flies a northern route to singapore (also over Hamburg).

The picture above is probably taken in the afternoon when this flight heads to Jakarta.

Must have been diverted due to problems. Remember the 6am curfew which is rudely enforced.

Remember the 6am curfew which is rudely enforced.

Not an issue as the plane is scheduled to arrive before 6am (unless KLM decided a flight with a scheduled arrival after 6am needed to be in AMS earlier).

BTW the aircraft arrived at AMS at 7:38
