Melzong Airlines In ANC Today...Help

Fri Jan 24, 2003 9:42 am

Hey,

Today spotted a Melzong Airlines Boeing 737-500 departing Anchoarge...Amazing paint scheme...

Who is this carrier? I ran a search on the registration, XU-735 and it returns nothing. Can anyone tell me about the airline and what brought the aircraft to Anchorage....

Royal,

You are correct, this airline is in Cambodia...Cannot find any information on the bird. The registration is not in any jetliner database that I can find...Nor can I find information on the airline. Their callsign was Bangkok....Ryan

Gawd,

I feel stupid! Yes Mekong would be correct. Still can anyone tell me about why they were here? Obviously a delv flight or something, but I mean the specifics, also who had this bird before? Ryan

I think it's Mekong Airlines. This airline was supposed to start up last year but failed a couple of times. Looks like they are finally getting their aircraft into the air! If I am not mistaken, it's a B737-500 on their way to Phnom Penh.

Mekong Airlines is the airline that is based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They will operate out to other South East Asian cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong. If I am not mistaken, some of their flights will be operated out from Siem Reap as well.

Hope this helped!

You get a lot of shorter ranged airliners through ANC on Delivery flights.

Comming in to work at various times, I have seen JAS 737's, Chinese Dash-8-400's, Impulse/Qantas 717's, Peruvian Air Force AN-32's.

After stopping in ANC, where does the QF 717s fly to? I thought it would make more sense to fly through HNL . . . like how the B737-800s did. Looks like ANC gets a lot of delivery flights too!

A lot of B737s stop in HNL for their delivery/ferry flights. I've seen these carriers on delivery:

China
  • Air China B737-800

  • Hainan Airlines B737-800/B767-300

  • China Eastern Airlines B737-700

  • China Southern Airlines B737-800

  • China Xinjiang Airlines B737-700/B757-200

  • China Southwest Airlines B737-600/B737-800

  • Mandarin Airlines B737-800

  • Shanghai Airlines B737-800

  • Shenzhen Airlines B737-700/B737-800

  • Xiamen Airlines B737-700

  • Yangtze River Express B737-300

  • Indonesia
  • Garuda Indonesia B737-300

  • Australia
  • Qantas B737-800

  • RAAF Bombardier Challenger/B737-700BBJ

I'm not sure the 717 has the range for the HNL delivery path to Oz.

Is this the route they would take?

No, the regular 717 can't make it from SFO or LAX to even HNL I don't think. I remember reading all about how HA used the same fuel tanks on the main cabin floor from the DC-9 ferrying, except with the 717 it only took 4 as opposed to 9 for the DC-9. This was in the Airways a long time ago entitled "Boeing 717 Enters Service" or thereabouts.

I think getting to Honolulu for a 717 is doable on a delivery flight, but anything after that may be taking a bit too big of a risk. A 2,700 km range won't give many diversion options in the middle of the Pacific...

When Qantas was getting all of those ex-TWA 717's we confirmed tail numbers as they came through here last summer.....All of them.

I assume that heading west they probably end up in Petroplavask or Magadan Russia next.

Rydawg82, this press release for ILFC give some information http://www.ilfc.com/press/122302.htm
And from other sources on the Internet based on that MSN, shows it's an ex. Continental 737-524 with the former registration N19634. It was returned to ILFC on August 31st 2002, and has been in storage since then - some reports indicate that it was moved up to Canada in October.
