All That JAZZ...paint?

Mon Jan 27, 2003 12:01 am

I was wondering what is determining the various Air Canada Jazz paint schemes.

Why are the titles at the rear for some and at the front for others? I would assume that it has to do with the amount of workable area to apply the titles on the fuselage, but there are some longer DASH 8's with the Jazz at the back.

Some also still have the old tails. Is this a cost-saving issue?

I think it could be just a way of being unique and "stylish"

or

the designers could be fans of

"Free Form Jazz"

I guess that some of the Dash8s have the "Jazz" name at the back because its just a sticker covering the actual airlines name "Air Nova" for example.
They just want people to recognise the regional arm as Jazz and not as Air Ontario as it used to be.

The Dash-8s with Jazz titles and the rear and green fin a just an interim transitional scheme to hide all the old brands.

The 146s that have been painted into the new Jazz colours have their titles at the rear due to the engines hiding the fueslage.

The top 2 are just interim schemes. They want a common name in place now, but are unable to repaint all the aircraft immediately.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Basically along the lines of what YYZ said, think about recent mergers too.

Or think about when USAir became USAirways, some of USAirways DC-9s were still in the colors of USAir, but the titles said USAirways.

Same as when Northwest took over Republic. The DC-9s still had the goose on them, but now it said Northwest instead while they were waiting to be fully repainted.
