IAH Needs Your Help.....!

Wed Jan 29, 2003 12:08 pm

I just posted this link on the Photographers forum, I thought that I would post it here as well.

http://www.petitiononline.com/saveiah

So if you are at all interested in help saving that wonderful pastime known as spotting from becoming an outlawed activity at another US airport, I would strongly encouraged all to sign this petition. With your help we may be able to save IAH's last observation area (Rankin Rd) as well as bring back the recently closed Lee Rd area.

Thanks,

Thomas

You make it sound like spotting is some sort of tax payer's right.
It's not.

The petition is trite and petty.

Good luck, anyway.

Just for curiosity's sake... what do you consider "trite and petty" about the petition?

I will tell you that it is a taxpayer's right to voice approval/disapproval at our public servants actions and I believe this what this petition is trying to accomplish.

The ability of some people to act stupid never fails to amaze me.

Hey Greg, go read the Constitution.

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It reads like a personal plea.
It won't convince anyone.
And the whole subject of being on public property.......(don't even get me started).

With all due respect Greg, regardless of how 'trite and petty' it may appear to you, the success of a very similar petition lead to the re-opening of the park at FLL. With his permission much of this petition is borrowed from that now famous and successful petition authored by Don Boyd.

I expected at least one nay-sayer from this forum. Oh well if anything you have certainly spiced this thread up a little bit. Frankly, there is nothing like a little disagreement in the family to make things interesting.

So, any chances that you might consent to laying down your 'John Hancock........ on our 'trite and petty' petition?

Is there anything wrong with posting again, so it goes back to the top and people see? Like I am doing now, tehehehe.

I live in Waco and do the drive to IAH (3hrs) on those days when I feel like some good music, a short road trip and some serious planes watching (though I cant get down there as often as I like). That trip wouldn't be the same with-out that great Lee Rd spot.

Please, if you have any comments or just want to vent, by all means don't be shy, let the politicians know....just keep it tasteful.

We here in Houston thank you for all of your support. We can win this if we really want it!

Ahhhhhhh.....Jay my poor misguided North Texas friend Wink/being sarcastic. If only DFW offered the exciting action that IAH offers..... Smokin cool. Hopefully will continue to offer, if this petition is successful.

Seriously, thanks for your support on this. It means a lot, every signature helps in giving our love of 'spotting' some real creadibility, amongst those who just do not 'get it'.

Comment To Thomas........

Fri Jan 31, 2003 1:18 pm

What do you mean that I am misguided?
I live in the wonderful city where there used
to be five great airlines headquartered here.

Braniff, Muse Air, Legend, Southwest and American......

Hey, at least Southwest is still a great airline......ha ha !!

By the way, DFW is the HOME of 747 freighters.........

Singapore, China Airlines, Eva Air and of course, my
employer, Korean Air..........we've even heard rumors
at a Dallas Interline Meeting today that Cathay Pacific is
seriously looking at starting freighter service to DFW !!

Gotta love it............

Seriously, good luck on the petition, that Rankin Road
location where I shot this photo, rocks !!

What a great birthday present !!

To DFW Boy A.k.a. Jay Davis!

Fri Jan 31, 2003 2:34 pm

Well indeed DFW does reign supreme in 747 Cargo service for the time being but keep in mind that IAH has just opened it's huge new cargo facility (off Lee Rd, just adjacent of 26) and talk is that HAS is eyeing on stealing away some of DFW's thunder Wink/being sarcastic. Keep in mind that we are no slouches in the 747F dept either. We do have Martinair (mix of MD11s and 747s), Cargolux, Air France (Cargo) and rumours are abounding about China Eastern, though I do not put too much stock in rumours.

I am still pissed that you Pries, and Wang beat me on getting the 'Max' rotating on film Wink/being sarcastic. I have still yet to get this.....and I live here!

In any case, great pic!

Thomas, Must Be The "clean Living"

Sat Feb 01, 2003 7:15 am

Yep, that is why Joe, Ben and I got Peter Max that day and you didn't...........believe me, we all about had a cow, had a heart attack, s*** in our paints, etc., when we found out that Bad Boy was taking off in our direction.

I'm sure Joe has nailed it a few times in EWR also, but obviously, it doesn't come to DFW or SJC for either me and Ben to shoot again.............

Also on that day, was Aramco's company DC-8, and the British Airways 747-400 series with the Qantas tail on it, so you couldn't have asked for a better day, unless the Concorde had been there also............

I will have to say that this is the "sweetest" photo I have ever taken........

http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=13461

I have a Canon EOS 1VHS and it will shoot about 7.5 frames a second and I decided that for just "one" special event, I was going to burn an entire roll on one plane.........well I did and it was awesome............I'll even give you a slide of it Thomas if we "ever" hook up..........

Happy Friday!!

The letters include links to the petition - hope it makes a difference - just to alert them to our petition!

I agree, Brian. IAH may not have S.Fla's diversity and some may not plan on visiting IAH for the purpose of spotting and photography regardless we really could use your help. Remember your airport could be next.

Still, I want to thank all of those who did sign, for those who did not, c'mon, I'd do the same for you.
