I'm Back

Let me tell you a bit about my trip and why I'll never fly Canadian Airlines Again.
My flight to YYZ on a 737 left on time. But before we left I was looking at my ticket, I had seat 6D. I specifically requested a window seat when I booked the ticket and confirmed it a few days earlier. I was pissed. I asked two different gate agents if there were any window seats or if they could switch me with somebody, they said no, the flight was full. Air Canada will always try to switch your seat for you. It was a relatively smooth flight, so I asked if I could vist the flight deck, the FA said no because it was against federal regulations. I always am allowed to visit aboard Air Canada. So I sat in my aisle seat trying to look out the window. We had an excessively rough landing, the plane was all over the place before we touched down. Got my luggage and left. While driving away beside the the airport, I saw 2 AC 744, 2 AC A340's, A cathay A340, and tonnes of 767's and a320's/a319's.

On the way back, an AA 757 flew over me on my way to the airport. I arrived 1 hour before I was supposed to depart, which is plenty, in hoping to get some good pictures inside. I stood in line for 30 mins waiting to check my bag. They could've had all the check-in counters open. I have never once experienced a line that long on any other airline, foreign or domestic. Went through security, took a couple of quick pics of a BA 742, AF A340, 2 CP DC-10, and 737's. I also saw a KLM 747 and many A320's an 767's. Our flight was delayed because they were slow getting the baggage on. The pilot said the APU wasn't working so they had to hook up to the ground to start the engines. Thats odd. I was in seat 13F by the way. While we were holding short of the runway, an AC A330 took off. I got to see it because I was on the right side of the aircraft. Those sure climb steep. As soon as we got off the ground, I saw another AC A330 on the ground sitting in a remote area. They must've gotten there second one. Once airborne and the dinner service was finished I asked again if I could visit the flight deck, same response. We landed and the thrust reversers were deployed for a longer than average time. Very smooth landing in YWG by the way.
The flight attendants on both flights were somewhat rude and rubbed it in our face that we wern't in Business Class.
So those are the reasons I am never flying Canadian Again and it made me realize why I fly Air Canada.

AC_340, Try getting your pictures on the Kodak PhotoCD, if you have that option. I did that for my pics and it works well.

You're right about AC looking into finding you another seat ( at yyt they put my mom in business after she mentioned that my grandmother had passed on and the trip was short notice... "we like to do that for people" the woman behind the counter said ). They go out of their way to make you happy. I got to see the cockpit of a Canadian 732 in the late 80's but we were on the ground. Also on the same time I was trying to ask a flight attendant a question and he wouldn't take the time to explain my question because he was flirting with a woman, another FA ( the plane was empty !! ) Too bad you couldn't fly AC.

P.S. My dad flew to Milwaukee over the summer.. A Northwest A320... anyway he was delayed due to a APU problem... lol... maybe that happens a lot!

Hi AC-A340 -

Sounds like a most unfortunate journey. I can help you out with one of your questions and suggest a possibility for the other.

First, if the APU is not working, the 737 needs an Air Start Cart to supply air to the jet engine starter motor. Normally, the APU supplies the air necessary to start the engines.

On the subject of the cockpit visits - you mentioned the flight was full on your way to YYZ. Was it also full on the way back? The reason I'm asking is because on a full flight, the cockpit is usually occupied by at least one, possibly two jump seat riders. It is a challenge to get to see anything with one person occupying the centre j/s; it's near impossible if both j/s's are being used. The other possibility is that a flight check by a Company Check Pilot was being carried out. Usually the flight deck is off limits to any visitors in that circumstance. If the F/A's told you it was because of the Regs, maybe it was just their way of giving you a quick, snappy answer so that you wouldn't ask again. Rudeness is very counter-productive to say the least, and may have cost CA your future business.

It's unfortunate that you had that experience, especially on a carrier here in Canada. Good luck with your future travels.

The flight was full on the way back. And nobody got out of the cockpit after we got to the gate. And yes, it did cost CA my future business.
