America West In ROC...

Mon Feb 03, 2003 1:47 am

I probably should have posted this when I saw it, but I forgot....

a few weeks ago when I was driving by the airport I saw an America West A320 pulling into a United Airlines gate, it was in the afternoon.

Any ideas why it was here? I was kind of surprised....

It was probably a divert, maybe a charter. Do you know what day it was? Last month (I think it was 08JAN) PHX was closed for arrivals until noon (fog)and a lot of flights were diverted and cancelled. At its worst point we only had only 2 HP a/c on the ground in PHX! The only hope for new HP service to ROC is probably some ERJs operated by Chautauqua from CMH.

The aircraft was actually an America West A319. It was enroute BOS-PHX when there was some sort of pressurization problem, and the pilots elected to land here just as a precaution, no emergency was declared.

Another unusual visitor we had that same evening was a Pace(aka Hooter's Air) 737-300 that came in from ACY around 10pm, and was heading back to INT a few minutes later. It was an all white fuselage with a dark blue tail, and the titles Vacation Express on the fuselage.
