AC Jazz At LGA Yesterday 2/2?

Tue Feb 04, 2003 12:17 am

I was coming in on a different flight, but saw an Air Canada Jazz plane at La Guardia Airport. It was a BAE 146 I think. I thought Jazz was only in Canada?

Maybe it was some kind of replacement aircraft?
Maybe on of you AC gurus could fill me in?
Thanks

AC Jazz has quite a few flights going to the US, if you look at the schedule you will see that there are numerous US cities where Jazz flies to.

Yeah, JAZZ has taken over parts of YYZ-ATL, YYZ-IND, YUL-ATL, YUL-EWR (last summer), YUL-LGA, YYZ-BOS (last summer), and thats all I could think of..

Also add YUL-IAD and YYZ-PHL to the list, I think that's all.

I had no idea guys. I thought Jazz was just a low cost intra-Canada deal. I also thought they only used 737 and A320 type planes in a low cost format.

This AC rebranding is very confusing. Seems to me they are diluting the core product. As a New Yorker, I recognize AC- but Jazz sounds kind of cheap and has ZERO brand recognition in the US. If I wasn't such a plane buff, I would never have even known to ask the question.

Jazz = Air Canada Regional
Tango = Intra-Canada low-cost
ZIP = Western Canada low-cost.

Whew.

It must have been a nice surprise to see the Jazz 146, when you didn't even know about them! The 146 is my favourite "Air Canada" type, and I'd like to see more of them. I'll have to get to YUL one day soon and catch one of the LGA departures/arrivals. I freaked out last year when AC said they were going to park the 146's; I'm glad they somehow changed their mind. They're the closest thing to 'variety' we have up here.

I believe AC has 8 146's in total, 6 from Air Nova, and 2 from Air BC(I'm sure someone will correct me!), both of which are now part of 'Jazz', which is AC's new name for their regional branch, as mentioned above.
Next flight.... who knows.

Jazz has 10 146-200's. 5 from Nova, and 5 from BC.

Petazulu,

The Jazz fleet is made of:

- 10 BAE 146
- 26 Dash-8-300
- 59 Dash-8-100
- 10 CRJ-200
I'm unsure of the exact number of BEH1900

It's pretty much the same fleet as the old "Air Canada Regional", except for the CRJs acquired from the mainline AC.

Tango flies the 732 and A320, and ZIP flies the 732.

AC Jazz has no BEH. They were retired, along with the F28's this past September. As for the CRJ's, they were not acquired from Mainline. These aircraft were acquired from Midway.

except for the CRJs acquired from the mainline AC.

The Jazz CRJ's were all procured 2nd hand from the US. None were transferred from AC mainline.

The Jazz CRJ's are -200's while AC mainline only operates older -100's.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

It should also be mentioned that Tango now operates to the US, LAS and FLL. Jazz has always operated into the States and will be increasing it presence in the near future. It is true that our CRJs were aquired from Midway and we are looking for more 200s. The mainline AC CRJs are amoungst the first produced and we don't want them.
