I think it's hilarious to read in the article that this gentleman, Cliff Armstrong, buys his house in 1975 for $65,000 (claiming he didn't now how close the planes would be to his house), then sells it in 1993 for $200,000 because ' "I had to sell the home". Let's see if my house in metro New Orleans appreciates 300% over the next 18 years, and I'm not directly under a flight path.....yet, but that's another story.
(His house, by the way, appears to be located just south of the 405 Freeway, off of Lakewood Boulevard, perhaps 1/2 mile off the approach end of runway 30).
Then there are the 'what if...' comments. What if the runway extension hadn't been built, circa 1955? My, my, the NIMBY's are at it again.....over something that was completed some time ago.
Frankly, if anybody in the LGB area is selling a bill of goods, it's the real estate agents. Of course, anyone who lays out 200 C-notes for a house 1/2 mile off an air carrier runway is probably a little bit out there anyway.
Be happy, you NIMBY locals, that Douglas and then McDD decided to stay put, and add a little to the local economy, that you don't have to deal with the LAX hassles, or the drive to SNA.
