USAir Paint Scheme

Wed Feb 05, 2003 2:26 am

It seems like every time I go spotting at LGA, I always see on of the 737s witht he old USAir paint scheme.

How many of these are left?

Anyone have a lists of registration numbers?

Thanks in advance.

I want to say there is between 15-20 left. I am not sure on the exact number. Although, that number will decrease shortly. Those 737's are finally on a schedule once again to be painted in the new scheme after a stop was put on the scheme during the UA/US discussions.

The new scheme does look nice but it looks as though it has a tendency to fade or dull in the area where the jetbridges are attached to the aircraft. Anybody know why this happens? The photos below, of two different aircraft, show this phenomenon (I don't think the dulling is due to reflection of the sun). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

To give a correction to a popular rumor:
No more USAir aircraft are to be painted. They are the aircraft that are first slotted to be retired. I dont know the exact number though.

I'm not sure how many are left, but I do know that the number of silver birds is dwindling fast. In the last 2 weeks I have seen three 737's leave the desert, go straight to the paint shop, and then come to our hangar for "c" checks. Sending planes to the desert is just one of many negotiating tactics we are using to get more favorable lease agreements.

A/C are still being routed to LCQ to be re-painted into the new livery...In the last 6 weeks or so, about 4 737's.

I see quite a few around still, especially on the PWM-PHL route. Every week I see at least one either going to or from PWM.

It helps bulk up the USAir section of the logbook (Not US Airways).
