About 7 years ago, I was in St. Petersburg vacation I was watching ATA 757-200 take off the flight heading to Frankfort, Germany nonstop much farther than between DTW and SNN. 757-300 range longer than 757-200.

If I'm not mistaken, the 753 has less range.

757-300 range longer than 757-200

Actually, you have it backwards.

It's empty. Just a positionflight. You get a lot more range with no payload on board.

I didn't know that 757-300 is shorter range than 757-200. I found it.

B757-200 : http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=101

B757-300 : http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=102

I apologized about this. I thought version higher number series mean more ranges. Why they did this? I'm confused about this.

Bigger planes have less range, in general, unless you specifically create an extended range version or the bigger plane is a different family.

The 762ER has the most range of the 767 line.

The 772LR has more range than the 773ER, and the 772 has more range than the 773.

The 752 has more range than the 753.

And the 73G has more range than the 738.

Same applies to airbusen of the same family.

SHA is airport code of Shanghai Hongqiao airport in China, not Shannon Ireland. When I first read the topic, I was shocked that the 753 could operate such a flight before I read the post!

There are no sked or charter transatlantic 753 ops by any airline (yet).

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

If there are no sched transatlantic 753 flights, then what did ATA fly between Detroit and Shannon? an L1011? but flytecomm.com is showing a 753 and it doesn't show it stopping anywhere.

Is DTW-SNN service back from Travel Charter/Key Tours? I remember I've flown the DTW-SNN route twice. One summer on the L1011 and another summer on the 757-200. Any info on the service this year?

Thanks

The 757-300 has enough range to get there. It's range is almost 3,908 miles.
On the map the length is 3,400 miles

So the 757-200 or 300 has the range to go that far. It probably was a vacation charter for Funjet or Ambasadair vacation charter.

I think the A318 has less range than the 319/320/321

Gigneil:

Not always true. I agree with USAFHummer.

The 737-600 has less range than the 737-700.

We could probably think of more examples.
