New Finnish Charter Airline? - Again

Fri Feb 07, 2003 10:46 pm

Finnair is planning to start a "new" charter airline from beginning of 2004. The fleet would consist of their present B757-200s (7 of them). AY has had a charter airline called Karair in beginning of 1990s and that is one of the names that have been mentioned in connection with this new airliner. These B757s have 227 economy seats (pretty crowded) and they fit very well to AYs charter traffic, being able to fly nonstop from HEL to Canary Islands and with onestop to Far East, Caribbean, Brazil, whish have been major Holiday destinations for finns lately.

Another finnish charter airliner - Air Finland - is just starting these days with its first destination Malaga. They also operate B757-200 and they plan to fly from Finland to European, Canary Islands and Asian holiday destinations.

It's only one idea being discussed within Finnair and hasn't been given any priority over the other possible options on the table.

And what might the other possible options on the table be? It is the matter of answering to the competition and making the business grow. The problem here is the crew - how will they relate to changes. It is definitely more attractive to be able to fly domestic, european routes, long haul and charter than only charter.
