UA's New Asia Flight: A/c Switch, New Flight

Sat Feb 08, 2003 10:39 am

United Airlines is making adjustments on it's Asian flight.

Starting March 12, Tokyo-Honolulu will be downgraded to a 772 from 744.
Starting April 6, introducing 2nd daily Tokyo-Hong Kong flight with 744.
Starting April 6, Tokyo-Singapore will be downgraded to a 772 from 744.
Starting April 6, Tokyo-San Francisco on UA852/853 will be upgraded to 744 from 772.
Starting June 2, resumption of Seoul-San Francisco flight with 772.

There are rumours flying around saying UA will take-over ANA's IAD-NRT. However, this will not happen in the first half of 03' Summer timetable.

United will also be starting service from Osaka/Kansai to Honolulu, with a 777-200ER. Not sure when the date is it is to start.

KIX-HNL will start on March 30. But it's not on UA's PDF timetable.

I have the details for the flight tho.

UA 833 will depart HNL at 9a and arrive at 12:55p the next day at KIX.

The return flight UA 832 will leave KIX at 6:50p and arrive at 7a the same day in HNL.

Its an extension, sorta, of their SFO-KIX service. The plane sits at KIX for about 23 hours in the current rotation. Now, instead of sitting there parked, it'll be making a flight between two established stations.

If it just breaks even, then it'll be better than sitting there.

Please note that 2nd daily NRT-HKG will not go ahead on April 6. UA was playing with the flight number game, which misleading me to post such wrong info.

Did UA sell off any of their 744s?
What other fleet downsizing plans do they have?
Did they furlough any pilots?

UA has currently parked 15 744s at Victorville (VCV) in California. None has been sold yet. Lots of UA pilots have been furloughed, probably over a 1000. The777Man

The fleets that are going to be scaled back are the 737, 747-400, and 757 fleets.

The entire 767-200 fleet will go as well.

If the 2nd daily NRT-HKG flight is not going to commence on April 6, does anyone when it will?

Hass, several of the 757s are leased. During chapter 11, United can arrange to do lease returns. Many 757 flights are going at a capacity where an Airbus or even a 737 can handle them. I can assure you that not too many 757s are leaving.
