They do indeed have PTVs in Y.

Make sure you didn't pick one of the 1 stops.

UA currently only flies 777s to CDG. UA switched to 763 at the beginning of January when UA discontinued service to SCL, DUS etc. UA also changed equipment at that time to KIX and ICN replacing 744s with 777s. The777Man

Thanks for the response. The 777Man, I did my booking via the website united.fr and there it was specified that the flight for a date in february will be operated with a 763....I was also under the impression that all CDG flights are 777.

What The777Man meant to say was all UA CDG flights are 763s. Despite high traffic, Paris is a traditionally low-yielding destination from the United States. Some exceptions being New York City, Miami ("jet set" traffic), and Washington (poltical traffic). Not only UA, but also AA is ending all 777 flights to Paris and is going all-763 this summer.

Currently, United only flies 777s to LHR and FRA in Europe. 767s fly to all other European destinations. This frees up several 777s to take over many of the old 747 flights across the pacific.

Not completely correct.

UA still maintains 777 service from IAD-AMS, a very healthy route; note that ORD-AMS is not in any danger of being cut, either.

UA will reinstate the 777 on IAD-CDG in the summer, forgot the exact date. Still think SFO and ORD will be 763 then but not sure. The777Man

IAD-CDG on the 777 restarts March 29 while SFO-CDG will revert to a 777 beginning April 6. ORD-CDG remains a 763.

Given that ORD is a UA hub I am a bit surprised that it remains 763. Isnt it the biggest UA hub in the US ?
How are their 763s compared to the 772s ?

The 767s are nicer in coach. All of the -300s have Y+. Less than half of the 777s have that.

UA only offers CDG service from their hubs, and yes ORD is the biggest but IAD also has sufficient service from major Western and Eastern business centers to make it a convenient transfer point for both, whereas ORD is best suited for Midwest and West passengers.

Gigneli is right, ORD is United's largest hub but it doesn't have that many flights to Europe from that point, only Europe's three largest airports: CDG, LHR and FRA. ORD is United's main hub for it's domestic system, with DEN. Most flights to Europe originate in IAD and most flights to Asia originate in SFO. That's why you see a lot of 777's in IAD. If the CDG-ORD or CDG-SFO flight is downgraded to a 767, it just means that they don't need that much capacity for the time being. It's more efficient for them to operate a 767 than a 777 if the load factors are going down.
I think that IAD will just be a small hub in the East Coast like RDU used to be for American, with maybe at the most three international flight to LHR, FRA and CDG, if they need to shrink further. They are talking about eliminating points such as BRU, AMS and MUC.

Hi, thanks for your infos. It is possible that I will transfer in ORD on the way over and fly direct from SFO on the way back. What is immigration like in ORD. I love arriving in SFO because normally we are the only international flight arriving at that time so very rapid. But I have heard of long long wait in other places especially when arrival time is with other international arrivals. I went through ORD once but my UA flight arrived some 4 hours late because we had to turn back to LHW as a pax actually went into labor in the air. But for normal UA CDG arrival time, what is the minimum transfer time to transfer to a domestic flight ?

Hold on there big guy!

I thought UA 763s had PTVs. . .just before I flew a UA 763 DEN LAX last week!
No PTV on my UA 763. My channel 9 wasn't even working for that matter.

In conclusion. . .maybe not all UA 763s have PTVs like we all thought they did.

PTV-Free-763-Unfortunately, DIA

Good luck.

Domestic 763s do not have PTVs.

100% of International 763s do.

Hope this clears it up.

UA has several domestically configured 763s that have downgraded classes of service. None of the seats are equipped with PTV's. The planes are used intra-hub, some domestic routes, as well as Hawaii routes: High load, low yield. They're never used for transatlantic.

To find out which planes have PTVs and which don't:

UA serves ORD-AMS with a 763... this service is *not* in danger of suspension.
