How To Differentiate The B744 And B744ER?

Sun Feb 09, 2003 1:06 pm

Now with QF flying the B744ER I have seen many pics of them on the database but i cannot tell the difference from the B 744.

Can anyone visually differentiate them? In which part are they different from the outside?

Thanks

AFAIK there are no external differences between the two...guess its a matter of knowing which regs are the -ER models..

How many B744ER does QF have now? What are their regos?

What about AF with their B744ERF?

So no external differences, at all?

QANTAS does have some livery differences from the normal -400 to the 400ER. Instead of: THE SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA you have: The Spirit of Australia. Also the same goes for the "longreach" title below the first class windows.

If you can walk right up to the wing, you might be able to see the trailing edge wedge.

But otherwise no not so much.

QF has 3 747-400ER's in service at the moment. The 4th is due to arrive in Australia from Seattle tomorrow. The remaining 2 will be delivered by July 2003 taking the total QF 747-400 fleet to 30 of which 6 will be ER. QF also still has 6 x 747-300 in service.

The easiest way to tell the QF 744 and 744ERs apart is the style of lettering on the nose that says "Spirit of Australia"

You'll notice the ERs have a bigger, bolder, and more roundish font...

How about the different engines !!. Also note the 744ER has white painted engines, the others are grey.
