What Is The Min. Runway Lenght For A 747-400

Tue Feb 11, 2003 7:46 pm

I just want to see if some know that because of this.
On CBR airport (Canberra Australia landed) a 747-400 on runway 35.
As i am well informed this runway has a lenght of 1680 meters

Pictures can been seen:

Take off...... lot of dust and really close to the end of the runway

Is the length of Canberra's airport indeed 1680 meters. I thought it would be longer, because Canberra is the Nations Capital

Depends on the individual aircraft's empty weight, the fuel and payload on bard, the wind direction and speed, the temperature, the humidity and the altitude/atmospheric pressure.

That is to say, a 747 stripped of it's interior with minimum fuel taking off on a runway pointed right into a 50kt headwind at sea level on a dry -40F day will take off splendidly. A few thousand feet, perhaps?

Conversely, a fully loaded 747 with full fuel taking off with a 10 kt tailwind at an airport 13,000 feet in elevation on a hot humid day will an unimaginable amount of runway. 15,000ft+?

I suspect the answer to your question lies somewhere in between these 2 ridiculous extremes.
buhh bye

So it was possible to land and take off on a runway of 1680 meters but it wasn't a full load and he must have been quite empty. Maybe only dropping of the Minister of Japan.

Source: Boeing

Minimum TORA (Take Off Run Available):
B747-400Domestic, CFM56-80C2B1, air conditioning off, Standard day, sea level, no wind, 0° runway slope, 450,000-510,000lbs: 4800ft

B747-400ERF, CFM56-80C2B5F, air conditioning off, Standard day + 17°C, 6000ft altitude (say Denver?!?), no wind, 0° runway slope, 15,600ft, MOTW reduced from 910,000lbs to 885,000lbs

Minimum Runway Landing Length:
B747-400, -400Combi, -400Freighter, -400 Domestic:
475,000 lbs, dry runway, sea level, flaps 30: some 5200ft

B747-400ER, -400ERF:
Maximum landing weight, wet runway, 6000ft pressure altitude, flaps 25:some 10,000ft

You see these figure vary GREATLY with the current conditions

So much for being "world aero data" when they, like nearly every other site, only list information for USA airport  Insane

Hi-

I just curious if there are more pictures with end of number URL address for an example: http://www.canberraairport.com.au/images/content/photos/enthusiasts_gallery/AEG23.JPG. You can change number 23 to 24 or any number you like to see.......right next to JPG there are more pictures in Australia. I found one of them I noticed a man with hat and red pant. He had barefeet walking down tarmac ramp! I can't see barely clear if he has barefeet or color shoes. Go check SRC=HTTP://www.canberraairport.com.au/images/content/photos/enthusiasts_gallery/AEG17.JPG>

Regarding Canberra, it may be the Nation's capital, but it is not a huge place by any means. I believe the population is around 300,000 (could be wrong on that). Inspite of the International moniker the airport has, there are no non-stop flights from CBR to any points outside of Australia.

Take a look at their website http://www.canberraairport.com.au and in particular their enthusiasts' section: http://www.canberraairport.com.au/aviation/enthusiasts/index.html

Sorry, but no. Worldaerodata.com lists information for most non-us airports too. Just enter the ICAO code.
