Westjet Still Doing Well Despite...

...despite slightly lower passenger loads.

WestJet Press Release ...

FEBRUARY 11, 2003

WestJet Revenue Passenger Miles Increase 51.8%

CALGARY, ALBERTA--WestJet announced its traffic statistics for
January 2003 today, featuring a 51.8% increase in revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) to 305,219,777, up from 201,025,929 in
January 2002. Available seat miles (ASMs) grew 61.4% to
497,982,155 in January of 2003, up from 308,608,026 in January of
2002. WestJet's load factor for January 2003 was 61.3% compared
with 65.1% in January of 2002.

Clive Beddoe, WestJet's President, CEO and Executive Chairman,
commented this morning: "We are pleased with our January traffic
results and the nominal 3.8 percentage-point decline in load
factor in the face of a dramatic 61.4% increase in capacity
during this traditionally slow period for travel in Canada."

Their flights to sun AND ski destinations are doing really well. Glad they are diversifying and continuing to do well.

What impresses me the most is that they are profitable, even with load factors in the low 60% range. Also nice to see them increase capacity dramatically without any adverse affects on their business.

I've flown Westjet twice now, both times from Calgary to Winnipeg roundtrip. The first trip was on the ol'-200 series and I really enjoyed myself. Second trip was flown in one of the new 700's, and that was quite nice! Great crew and excellent service, one of our FA's was from Italy and we managed to strike up a conversation in Italian, our family being from that end of the world!

On the way back to Calgary I got a great view of a Cathay 744 heading East, I never quite figured out where it could have been heading...I think we were over Saskatchewan at the time, any ideas?

I've also had the privilege of doing a check flight for a Westjet pilot in one of our 172's at the school I teach at. Great guy and an awesome flight, he didn't even try to flare 50 feet above the ground! My best student yet  Smile

It would be great to someday get a job with a great airline based in a great city...Calgary!

Well I think you're going to get a lot of users, but I've flown Westjet a few times and have flied all their plane types (732, 73G, 738) with the 738 being the nicest by a country mile.

Great airline, but I wish they'd put more 73G's on the YEG-YVR route!
