Saw A New Type For First Time Today!

Sun Feb 16, 2003 11:40 am

I know, some of you are like, big freakin' deal. But we all get a little excited when we see a new type for the first time - AND YOU KNOW IT!!!!  Laugh out loud

Anyway, I saw the Embraer 145XR for the first time today. Continental Express of course. (only operator)

Me too. A Saab 2000 was in TUS for about 20 minutes this afternoon. I swear that beast came in at about 500 feet from 2 miles out.

Seeing/hearing/feeling the Concorde take off for the first time is truly breathtaking. I first saw it in 1995 in Dallas on a RTW flight.

Now, the EMB 145X - I live in Houston and those are already quite common out at Gordon's IAH. (Still, nice to see a new type)

I worked in CDG for a while so seeing the Concorde go by should have been common but we always stopped to admire it...

I remember my first time seeing a 753. It was an ATA 753 coming into PHL for a charter, and I was in the car driving by the airport. She came right in with full flaps, perfectly aligned, and I was just in awe. What a beauty she was Big grin

I will always remember the first time I saw concorde. It was coming in at EMA years and years ago, so we went to see it. My dad parked right underneath the approach line and in it came. My ears were hurting so much, but it was fantastic, to be so close to it.

Was it all white? That would be the GM corporate shuttle Saab 2000. GM has the only Saab 2000s that I know of in the U.S.

I still remember seeing my first 747, 32 years ago. It was a Pan Am ship on finals to Schiphol. Seeing a Jumbo for the first time after having flown on DC-8s and 707s for a decade was the ultimate thrill. Over three decades has not erased the feeling of excitement.

I remember when I first saw a 747SP with my own eyes. It was at LHR as my parents were at a car rental place. I was 10 at the time, and I thought that was a really wierd 747 because it was so short. The 747SP was in Pan Am colors.

Much more recently, in June of 1999, I was surprised to see a Boeing 777-200 at YYZ, mainly because I didn't think that B777s would be flying into Canadian airports so soon! That was a Korean Air 772. I'm not sure if Korean flies 777s into Canada anymore now, but BA does fly 772's into YYZ and YUL. SQ also flies 772s into YVR.

Sure was all white with blue trim. I can no longer read foot high letters with the naked eye (pretty sad since I was 50 feet away) and didn't have my camera to zoom in so I have no idea what the registration was.

Discounting CIS types, I'm down to the ERJ-135, A330, 767-400 and 777-300 that I have yet to see. I don't get out in the field much anymore. Sigh....

At least I can remember 707s, DC-8s, 880s and 990s si I can die happy but I sure would like to live long enough to see the 380. Not highly likely though.

I was shocked when I first saw the 777 up close, it was the first revenue day of operation with CO and it was parked at Terminal C boarding for a flight to Orlando.

The engines were/are HUGE, same with the landing gear.

I feel your excitement. The first time I saw a 717, I was amazed, now I just say ah yeah, another 717. When I go to ATL, I always look forward to seeing different aircraft.

Yes I do like the little Jungle jet and unlike you I've never seen the new one -145xr. Memorable first sightings for me were a CP Air DC-8 and DC-10, A Pan Am 747sp with the bill board titles, and a very odd visitor to Sydney,
a Ports of Call Convair that I think was a 990, I'd never ever seen one of those before.Just a few weeks ago I saw the Qantas A330 for the first time and will fly it on Wednesday to Melbourne, My first A330 flight.
Oh and I remember seeing a RAF VC-10 doing a passenger charter and departing from the International Terminal! That was so cool!
I'm going to the US in April and I hope to see the CRJ-900 for the first time too.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!

Seeing my first 777 up close (in the international terminal at IAH) was a thrill. It was parked like 5 feet from the glass! I had seen others but never one up that close!

Unloading off an SN A332 across the tarmac at BRU was a hoot too. Gives you a unique view of how truly large those PW4168's were! No jetways for me, thanks!

I'd have to say my biggest thrill though was the Confederate Air Force's B-29 "Fifi". What an amazing sight.

I was in Seattle to see the first flight of the 777 with my dad. There was so much publicity aroung the plane and i can remeber thinking how big it was and how a computer could design the whole thing. Then 6 or 7 years later i saw my first 777 up close at CVG as it was the plajne flying me to LGW.

Seeing a MD 11 in DELTA colors for the first was awsome as it is such a beautiful aircraft.

Most importantly is my first memory of seeign a 747 up close. It was a KLM 747-300 at ORD 7 years ago. It flew right over my friends house which is very close to ORD along with other 747s but the next day i was able to see the plane up close.

A340-600 for me. You don't really realize how long it is until you see it in person.

757-200 (Yes, 757-200!) In China Southern livery. I think it was B-22** or something, but didnt see the reg. closely enough.

I saw my first 717 the other day, I was in the parking lot of this place called Drexel interiors when at maybe 2000 feet or less this Airtran 717 goes over, and I was like A 717 I GOT TO SEE A 717. but then I got mad cause I realized that every airplane that I have ever seen come in at mke is a t tail and I hate that. They need something new for once. mke is just boring. By the way where do they stand on, lets say the busiest 100, maybe not passengers but operations. They were pretty busy the day I was there.

Glad to see the responses are agreeing with me!  Laugh out loud Yea, I got excited when I saw my first BBJ before seeing the 145XR. I didn't even see it at first. I heard the chatter on ground frequency, the tower asked if it was a BBJ and I shot out of the chair with a jolt. Needless to say, I had to go on the field and gawk at it up close. I got to get on board a couple months later when it was on static display at STL. Simply awesome. Then I got depressed.  Laugh out loud
