EL AL At EWR...

Thu Feb 20, 2003 6:47 am

I was driving on the turnpike this morning and as usual my favorite part is when i pass by EWR. Usually i see either an EL AL 777 or an EL AL 744 on any given day but today i noticed that there were one of each. A 777 was standing at B2(gates 50-58) and an EL AL 744 was at the parking stand next to a Singapore744 in between terminals A and B. I haven't checked up on their frequencys into and out of EWR but i've never seen 2 EL AL aircraft at EWR at the same time--maybe that's just me.

What are the load factors out of EWR?? Are they doing better at EWR or JFK??

thanks in advance  Smile

For some reason, I think they are better out of EWR, but JFK has good enough loads to keep it there.

I'd imagine the extra plane is related to the storm. Either El Al wanted some extra capacity to make up for cancelled flights, or a plane was stranded in EWR, while another flight arrived.

Starting October 2002 the EWR flight will continue on to ORD twice a week and MIA once a week (MIA's second frequency will be extended from JFK). I think there is one daily flight, but El Al's schedules are constantly changing and adjusting to demand.

I don't think loads are better or worse out of JFK or EWR. First, there was a huge storm that blew through the East Coast over the weekend and either 1 or both El Al jets got stuck at EWR. The NYC-Israel market is huge and there are only two carriers, flying it (El Al from JFK, EWR and CO from EWR). Despite the dramatic fall off in tourism since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict intensified, there is still a good amount of traffic between the US and Israel.

Does the El Al flight depart late? For some reason, when I go to EWR (I usually arrive around 9-10 pm) I notice that there's always a Continental Airlines 777 and an El Al 747 or 777 both heading to Tel Aviv.

with all the large jewish populations around EWR and JFK (including most of NJ, brooklyn, there are places close by in NY State), its no wonder they do well. There will almost always be Jews going to and from TLV.

It's actually ironic, a little while after posting this thread i was listening to the radio station 1010 wins and their sports is sponsored by EL AL. At present EL AL is offering a buddy deal, if u buy one round trip between NYC(JFK or EWR) to Tel Aviv for $899 a buddy of urs gets to fly for $599 and the deal is only valid until March 31,2003--so if any one wants to fly to Tel Aviv now sounds like a good time to do so.

By the way, thanks for the info guys.

Regards
