Scary For Most Fun For You!

Fri Feb 21, 2003 9:24 am

I am talking about when you are coming in for landing ( not being the Pilot) and you got lots of turbelance or making lots of turns. Most people are wondering what is happening. But we all know. We just sit back and enjoy the view. On take off and cruise to. It is the best when someone that never flew to that airport before or that has nver flown before is next to you. Or someone that is afraid to fly that is the best. Coming in from Bimi on Chalks into Watson island is the worst. You making steep decents and many turns in between the buildings. Once in a plane full with British tourist about 4 where trowing up in their bags. So do you have fun seeing other people scared.

Are you for real? Why would it be fun to see others who are scared?

While it would be annoying on a continual basis... I too admit I'm rather amused on the hyper-nervous flyer from time to time. We once had a woman scream at the absolute top of her lungs DFW-SLC in 1992; the plane was banking (somewhat sharply) after takeoff and she thought it was rolling over and falling from the sky  Laugh out loud

Well, there's one on every flight, right??

Take a look at this thread of a flight I took. I admit that for a brief few seconds, even MY heart skipped a beat. (Experiencing a go around for the first time on a runway with water at the other end freaked me for a second.) Some were pissed and others were scared.

warning though. The link has music and is archived, so I cannot stop the autoplay on the music.

peace.

Are you for real indeed?
I am a big fan of aviation but still afraid to fly.
I know what happens during the flight and i know what is normal and what is not but still if i saw a guy like you laughing and enjoying urself over other peoples fears I'd kick the shit out of you. And i mean it.

I remember a survey which concluded that 20 % of people are infact afraid of flying.

So, if you don't come up with smarter topics - don't write.

Truth is, it's because I am fairly educated with aviation (flew right seat growing up nearly daily, as my father is a private pilot), that I have a raised eyebrow when the plane doesn't feel right.

Some bumps are not your typical turbulence.

I actually enjoy a little light turbulence! Not too much just a little to make it more interesting lol. I understand what the aircraft is doing at ALL times- i can tell when it's levelling out at cruise level, i can tell when descent has started and i can tell if we are step climbing. I look up all the SIDS and STARS for the particular airports i will be flying to/from in my JEPPS so i know exactly what SID/STAR we will fly for what runway. I prefer interesting approaches with lots of low level turns. I ALWAYS get a window seat because i love to look outside(if you get a wing window seat even better!) seeing the flight controls in action is truly spectacular! I have a PPL BTW. I've never been on a flight and seen anyone visibly shaken or scared but then again i've never actually flown through thunderstorms. Night time approaches in IMC are fun though Smile
