United Planning Denver Airport Expansion

Sun Feb 23, 2003 4:08 am

Hard to believe?

Read:

It's been reported that United Express will greatly expand in Denver, not just by replacing some United flights, but open up new routes.

It's reported that United wants to add more routes to the Southeast to states such as Alabama, and Mississippi from Denver using regional jets.

Regards

Not hard to believe. We've been working with UA for weeks on this and it seems that it is, almost without a doubt, an absolute "go" as far as both DIA's and UA's health and future is concerned. These are hard times that call for drastic actions/measures. . .this just happens to be part of the grand plan of bringing UA back up to good health. UA Express and "Starfish" will have quite a presence here in DEN when this is a finished product. Better enjoy the way DIA is right right now in terms of "looks of flight movements, liveries, schedules, Concourse B...and so on because there is going to be a big difference within a year or two. . .guaranteed.

I'm not sure if you are trying to tell me this is a good thing or a bad thing?

I think it's a mix. It's bad in the sense that Denver will see mostly United Express expansion and not so much United, but it's good in the sense that it will add more routes (to the Southeast in particular), and have more variety with the new low-fare carrier United plans to launch.

ba,
are you saying that they will start service to BHM?
do you have a list of potential cities going to be served by UAX in the near future?
and will it be AWAC or SKYWEST?

Ual777contrail,

Yes I have heard that BHM will be one of the cities, but I do not know of other cities. I'm assuming Jackson will be one of them also.

I THINK they will be operated by Skywest, but I'm not 100% sure. It could be a mix also.

We have a lot of BHM boys in my station that will be very happy to hear this. Do you think maybe sometime in the summer we'll see this happen? Thanks for all the info.

Ual777contrail,

That is very possible. All I know is United wants to make it's route network from DEN bigger (not smaller) as part of it's restructuring to become profitable.

This is a very smart move in my opinion. United can expand in Denver and add new routes by using it's United Express carriers. Any such expansion will virtually cost United nothing since the routes will be operated by the United Express carriers. By expanding the route network, this provides more feed for United and thus increases overall performance.

It's a good thing they chose to expand to the Southeast since that is least covered part of the country from Denver.

BA,

It's is very good to hear for United Express expansion need more opened it up the route. Also, I do think that United Express really want for CRJ-700 aircraft need for the customers. Also, I do think United need increase from DEN-MEM flight anytime soon. It can be expanded more route and flight, too. I had to think about DEN will made decide for open it up with the new route for the domestic flight or international flight. Well, catch ya later!

Regards!

I'm astonished.

I would have thought - foolish me - that UAL needs to get its house in order before it starts work on the "grand plan".

They're still bleeding millions a day, but no one seems particularly bothered. Everything we hear about is "the future", but if they don't start addressing today (or at the least, tomorrow) how can there be a future?

I don't want UAL to go under, for all sorts of reasons that have mostly to do with Frontier - better the devil F9 knows, than some other, new, unknown devil.

But I find the situation at UAL bizarre, to say the least. It may be a lack of vision on my part, but I think that proving you can pay your bills now is more important than what you plan to do tomorrow.

 Smile/happy/getting dizzy

cheers
