The 747, Still The Real Queen Of The Air!

Tue Feb 25, 2003 4:20 pm

I recently flew with Klm's 747-300 from Amsterdam to Paramaribo (Surinam, South America) and decided to make this short remark just to let you know and to remember you that the real Queen of the air is still the good
old 747  Smile/happy/getting dizzy (no offend against other products )  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Honestly, I flew with a lot of different modern airliners including the 777, 340, 330 ect., but the 747 beats them all
(I speak from the bottom of my heart)
Klm's 747-300 are realy old, on the way to Paramaribo I flew with PH-BUR "Indus" who was delivered in
December 1981 and to be honest they are not quite nor equipped with modern entertainment systems but
behalf of that the legroom was not bad at all, the seats where comfortable and you feel secure on this birds .
I have to mention that when I flew last september with Malaysian Airlines from Ams to Kuala Lumpur on the 777
I felt much more scramped in the 777 as in the 747!!! The way back from Paramaribo to Ams was on the
PH-BUU Sir Frank Whittle delivered in September 1983. I flew several times before with Klm's 747 but now
after all the flights with the " modern airliners" I suddenly realised that the good old 747 is still my preferred
airliner!!!

Greetings to all the 747 lovers out there and hope she will stay with us for a looooooooong time

Marc

I for one agree with you... no matter what new aircraft I fly on, nothing still beats flying on the B747  Smile

Nice topic, I agree wholeheartedly, the 747 is definitely still the queen of the skies. Lets hope it stay that way for a long time to come.
Once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward; for there you long to return

I got my B-747 ATP Rating in 1972. The same AC if flew was destroyed when TWA 800 was blown up.

My family and I always flew First Class. Royal Ambassador Service was outstanding (I had to pay a $10 surcharge, but hey, ........).

Champaign Cocktails when you boarded, plus outstanding food and drink, and service.

In those days, the upper deck was the First Class Lounge.

God be with the days, we'll never see them again.

Yes, it is the best to look at. However I prefer flying on smaller aircraft, Props/regional jets (ERJ145 is alot of fun).

For long overwater flights, there's nothing like 4 engines.

Take it from someone who lost one.

Cool report Luxair but the 747-300 didnt enter service until 1983 not 1981. So what you flew on must have been one of the 200's that was sent back for the stretched upper deck conversion.

Funny when I started flying we had the option of being qualified on the 747 or not, and a lot of girls(we didn't have guys back then) really chickened out on that big plane-myself included. Back then I did most of my flying on the 727's, even avoiding the DC-8's and the DC-10's. Then when we were taken by PanAm and I moved bases I had the great pleasure of getting on a "74". I can't believe what I missed for so many years.

Toner said it best-Those days are gone forever. They were great while they lasted, the extensive FC service that both TWA and PanAm did, wow! If you never got to experience it, I feel sorry for you. The companies do a pretty good service today, but nobody does anything like 20 years ago.

Watching a 747 take-off is a mind-blowing experience, for such a huge aircraft it still has graceful lines and a "imposing" feeling to it.

"Actions speak louder than words"

I think this pictures sums it up well:
