Emergency Landing At BRU?

Wed Feb 26, 2003 8:40 pm

Hi guys,

While I was just eating, I heard a plane coming over my house very low. I rushed outside, and saw a plane with a blue belly dumping fuel, and flying in the direction of Brussels (about 50km from here).

It was already quite far, but I think it had a blue belly (so maybe BA?). It was also a quite large aircraft as far as I could see it (with the clouds etc).

Anyone has more information?

Thanks and regards
Frederic

Any of you in Europe got any ideas ??.

One question, would you dump fuel at low level ?. Also if its dumping fuel it must be a plane thats was **planning** a long flight.

Hi Hkgspotter1,

Indeed, this also surprised me! It was very low (that's why I ran outside to look at it, normally they don't fly so low over here), and the contrails I saw were certainly not vapour trails, it was clearly dumping fuel.

A large plane, long distance, dumping fuel and the time that you posted the topic makes me think of the UA flight witha 767-300 to Washington.

Thanks for the news, Sabena 690. I certainly didn't hear anything unusual over here...

Maybe on of our BRU residents (Luchtzak, MD-11er,...) could check it out if they head to their 'offices' today?)...

Hi Manni,

Indeed, now you say it, UA would be possible... but I checked the website of BIAC, and apparently not one of the two flights came back to BRU...

Comme on guys, was really nobody listening to the scanner or so? Big grin

couldn't you just saw a very low a/c with its vapor trail? ï don't think any a/c would dump fuel during aproach.. they usually fly to the northsea at some level and then return to the airport (thats the case at EHAM)

Thanks Luchtzak!

@Lars:
With low, I don't mean 300 feet like on approach or so... anyway, I'm sure it were no vapour trails. You could clearly see that it was fuel dumping.

Another thing: 30 minuts before I saw this one, I heard another jet coming very low, but I couldn't have a look outside than to spot it (it could be the same one flying tours to dump fuel). It flew in the direction of BRU, but this is different of approaching BRU to land. Maybe it was just circling to dump fuel, and it landed at OST or so...

Regards
Frederic
