Which US Airlines Have Laptop Power Ports Onboard?

Fri Feb 28, 2003 3:41 am

Just doing a little checking on which airlines have powerports for you to plug your laptop computer into? I just curious so that I don't spend a bunch of money on getting the adaptors and then not being able to use them. I know that Delta has them on in all classes on their newer a/c (777, 767-400, 737-800) and in Business Elite equipped a/c.

US Airways does, on the Airbus fleet, A319/320/321/330.

United has them on the following aircraft:

-Airbus A320s (United First)
-Airbus A319s (United First)
-Boeing 747-400s (United First & United Business)
-Boeing 757-200s (United First)
-Boeing 767-300s (United First on 2-class, United First & United Business on 3-class)
-Boeing 777-200s (United First on 2-class, United First & United Business on 3-class)

I believe that there were/are some plans to install them on select B737s, but I would understand why those plans might have been shelved.

In addition, it is important to note that the availability on the narrowbodies often fluctuates; check with your flight attendant after take off.

United needed to rewire the B777 EmPower system, and launched that program about a year or two ago. Certain B777s still have not received the upgrade.

American does in most of there planes in all classes, however they aren't in every seat. They skip every other row towards the front of the plane and skip 3 or 4 rows it seems the farther back you go. Gotta get lucky to have your seat with the power.

Strangely, UA A319s do *not* have EmPower.

BTW, all 777s have been rewired and have EmPower in the premium classes.
no wire hangers!

All AA's planes have powerports.

In First and Business Class, there are powerports in every seat.

In Coach, the ports are typically in the first half-dozen rows and distributed throughout the rest of the rows.

By all reports, AA's powerports consistently work; UA's (like the rest of the airline) are a hit and miss affair.
