CX Offers Pax Downtown Check-in At Kuala Lumpur

Tue Mar 04, 2003 2:22 pm

With effective from March 3, 2003, Cathay Pacific passengers from Kuala Lumpur will be able to check in from downtown Kuala Lumpur at KL's City Air Terminal (XKL). This has been made possible as Cathay has appointed MAS as its ground handler at KL CAT. Cathay thus becomes the first foreign airline allowing its passengers to experience the City Air Terminal check-in services provided by Malaysia Airlines. Passengers are required to check-in at the KL CAT at least two hours before their flight departure.

Ms Vivian Lo, Cathay Pacific's Country Manager (Malaysia & Brunei), said that the downtown check-in facility situated on the fringe of downtown will save valuable time for their passengers. With similar services available at Cathay's check-in counters located at Hong Kong and Kowloon Train Station, Cathay's passengers can now enjoy a city to city convenient and seamless travel experience between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific currently operates 33 flights a week from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong, inclusive flights operated on code-share basis with MAS.

Regards.

PS: Surprised that SIA was not the first foreign airline to allow passengers to check in at KL CAT, given that SIA have the largest operations in KUL after MAS and maybe Air Asia.

I wish I could have used this before yesterday on Royal Brunei.

Any other carriers to follow?

What's if you have a VS, LX, KL or another ticket on a MAS Codeshare flight? You still have to go to the airport it self, isn't it?

Air Asia was supposed to commence city check-in this year according to my source when I myself last used the CAT at XKL (incidently, is Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal's IATA code). Not sure what's happened. They were supposed to set up their desk on the other side of the MAS counters.

Mas777: Aren't they going to increase their cost if they want to have check-in facilities at XKL? Plus, with their cheap air fares, the train to KUL is probably more expensive than the plane ticket itself.

apparently Royal Brunei are offering downtown check in from next month onwards... with Air Asia being offered cheaper alternatives (i.e. using the KLIA transit instead of the express itself) for its passengers. ERL are also discussing with other regional carriers...
