I couple of days ago it was announced that Eva air and American Airlines were forming a new alliance to cover traffic between US and Taiwan. This would seem to put an end to the current agreement between Eva air and Continental Airlines.
Eva air also currently has a codeshare agreement with British Airways.
Is this leading to entrance in some form to the one world alliance. Would Eva air benefit from Cathays hub so close to it own. I think in this case it would. Eva could operate all traffic on behalf of CX between Taiwan and Hong Kong and Cathay offer onward flights to Europe. Currently all Eva Air Europe flights are routed
via Bangkok (incidently minor hubs of both Qantas and British Airways, One World Members.)
What about JAL and its subsidary Japan Asia Airways which operates in and out of Taiwan, maybe these could also be taken over by Eva and Japan Airlines could offer onward flights to the US and Canada.
Eva would then have comprehensive access to European and North Amercian markets, while maintaining a regional position.
Maybe Qantas could codeshare with Eva Airways with flights between Australia and Taiwan.
Does anyone have any other thoughts?
