Codeshare Agreement AA And SN Brussels Airlines

Tue Mar 04, 2003 10:43 pm

A code-share agreement between SN Brussels Airlines and American Airlines has been concluded and will start during the summer season 2003.

A SN flight number will be placed on American's daily Boeing 767 flight Brussels - Chicago and on a number of connecting domestic flights beyond Chicago. An American Airlines code will be placed on a number of SN flights beyond Brussels (Europe and Africa).

This is the first transatlantic flight of SN Brussels Airlines.

That's about time, they found a partner on the trans-atlantic. The days that Sabena codeshared with Delta are gone, unfortunately...

I also think it is about time. However, I wonder if some of it, at least, is to pout more pressure on BA and the UK to do the things that need to be done so that AA/BA can cooperate like this and have US antiturst immunity.

I thought SNBA and Continental had signed an agreement. Can someone please explain this?

That's very good news, however, in this case, SNBA will not cover the east coast of the US., Flying to Chicago (ORD) for 9 hours (instead of 7:30-8 to New York) and then having to connect from ORD to New York or even Boston would be quite a detour.

Perhaps SNBA will fly themselves to New York some day (in better times of course)?

In any case this code share is a very good idea. It will allow both companies' passengers to better fill each other's aircraft and it will also certainly be an extra boost for the Africa - US traffic and v.v., directly competing with Air France who's had virtual monopoly on the route.

@Blink182:

The agreement with CO was only an interline agreement (like SN also had with AA). Now it became a codeshare agreement for SN with AA.

That is very good news. I've heard AA will go to daily flights out of BRU.

Yes, from this weekend AA went back to daily between ORD and BRU, the 5 times a week service only lasted 4 months as planned.

Any news on which and how many North American AA routes will get the SN code as of the end of this month? Obviously the BRU-ORD transatlantic flight, but I have been thinking of big US cities like NY, Miami, LA and such.... with the others offered in interline...

Same question for the European and African routes of SN: which will get the AA code added to them? Florence? Hamburg? Strasbourg? Nairobi? Dakar?

Just curious.... 'cos the booking engine on the SN website is not giving the details yet as it previously did (!)

Who is online
