Delta's MD-90s

Thu Mar 06, 2003 2:04 am

What are Delta's future plans with the MD-90. I thought they already phased them out in favor of just using the MD-88s.

There are currently 16 of these birds still flying for Delta. They are based in SLC, and DFW, flying to destinations in Florida and California. The MD-90's will be around for a few more years, as they are very noise-friendly aircraft, and are a viable solution to keeping a steady mainstream flow of passengers into such airports as SNA. Great little niche aircraft.

Thanks for quick response!

Does Delta now have Reno Air's MD-90s? If not, what did A^A do with them?

Reno Air's 5 MD-90s I believe, are now headed to SAS, along with 3 other MD-90s to add to SAS's current fleet. When AA got rid of the the 5 MD-90s, they were retired to VCV, where I think they're being prepared for service again. I could be wrong on all counts here tho. Regards.

If that is true. . .that is very interesting. I thought SAS was phasing MD series out for newer 737NG series. I do hope you are correct, that would be great for SAS to keep flying these MD-series gals for years more.

DL also frequently operates the M90 DFW-DCA, been on it on more than one occasion.

Great aircraft from a pax POV.

Those 5 were supposed to go to PROAir during their RE-Start, but they could not secure the funding. Man, it'd have been great to see a MD-90 flying in PROAir colors

The 5 ex-Reno and 3 ex-Egyptian -90's are headed for SAS to replace some 10-16 MD-80's being phased out, however, minor things have to be ironed out before the contract is signed.service entry is not now envisaged before the start of the winter schedules in late Oct. this year.
The 737NG's replaced the old DC-9's and FK-28's,not the MD-80.An MD-80 replacement will most likely be from the Airbus 320-series.

The Pro Air MD-90's are still in ProAir colors parked at MZJ.
