Thai Airways - SYD-LHR

Thu Mar 06, 2003 6:55 am

I am looking to fly Thai from SYD-LHR in F. Can anyone tell me what thier seats/service is like for such a long trip? I heard they do no t have PTV's and they are not fully relcining seats.

I can use SQ,LH or Thai. I have taken SQ and LH and thought I would try a new one. ANy comments on Thai's product?

Thanks

I used them a couple of years ago ex SYD-AKL and return on the 744. The seats were very basic in economy and the J and F seats were also basic. No PTVs to be seen. They offer a very cheap business class airfare to AKL but that is because their inflight seats do not compete with the likes of NZ or QF on the Tasman.
Their service was more than adequate.

They operate the MD11 out of Sydney now as well and they still have the old seats. I believe that some 744s were getting a new F product but that's all I know.

I've heard MH is VERY good in first class. Perhaps you should consider them?

Sounds like you're trying to stick with Star.

SQ really is your best bet.

Sorry Tony see you mentioned F. Their seats are the very basic sleeper seats that were on SQ two releases ago!!

MH has an excellent F product but again their seats are not as advanced as flat bed sleepers.

However on both you have about 60 inches of pithc and you can sleep on your back.

Thai's 747-400 version 2 (code 747) has full sleepers with PTVs and 80" pitch. You should be able to get that all the way SYD-LHR on some days.

Is it worth me trying to get you on a Singapore Airlines flight? Or are you ardently trying for Thai Airways International - A Member Of Star Alliance.

The 747-400 version 2 has flat bed in First class and improved seats in Business. Also has PTV in both First and Business class.

All BKK-LHR flights (TG910 & TG916) are operated with the 747-400 version 2. For BKK-SYD flights, 747-400 version 2 are used for TG991 on Tue, Thu, Sun outbound and Mon, Wed, Fri inbound.

My sister's mother-in-law flew Thai first class a few months ago SYD-LHR and there wasn't a proper sleeper seat or personal IFE anywhere to be seen, either direction. It sounded like Olympic Airways business class on the 747-200 in the early 90s to me, ie not much cop. If you're paying for the ticket don't risk it (even though some planes are starting to get an update). What about BA business class? That's a proper flat bed, personal IFE, the whole works. Pricier than some airlines' business class (or even some first class services) but better than most first class services. Thai is a waste of time and money unless you want to remember first class in the 80s.

Thai use 747-300's from SYD on Tuesday, Thursday, Staurday and Sunday! I think they use both the new and old seats on the other days with the 747-400's!

No, from March 31, 2003. All 747-400's running this route will be equipped with new first class. The rest of the week you'll get 747-300 with old seating, though.

Check their new schedule and look for equipment code "747" which means 747-400 version 2. The other code "744" and "743" means 747-400 version 1 and 747-300 respectively.
