OA are OK. the only problem I have with them is the fact you must fly through Athens Airport. The few times I had the mis-fortune of using Athens airport it was a shambles. Having said that, I hear a new Airport is/has been built. Is it any better? I hope so!!

Athens Airport

I remember on takeoff at Athens airport the intial bit of tarmac looked like paving stones, it was really bumpy because we kept on going over the grooves between slabs! i know it was a very steep takeoff with sharp left hand turn. Is this shambles at the begining of the runway for a reason, i would hate to think we started our takeoff roll not on the runway. It was a 737-200 if that helps?

By March 2001 Athens will have a state of the art new airport. The current airport will close. Visit
http://www.athensairport-2001.gr/ for details. As for the 737-200 takeoff roll I 've seen many many times the 732's starting it at the very beginning of the runway using every meter of it.

Yah-sou, as a fellow Greek-American, I must say that this airline needs to get rid of it's anti-American sentiment. In June 1973, my family and I went to Greece to visit my father's family, and at the Athens airport my father was getting tickets for a flight to Thessaloniki and the gentlemen behind the counter heard me and my brother speaking English and right away he told us that the flight was booked and that we had to wait for the evening flight. That ticked my father off, my mother right away asked for the manager, he came out and she told him that she and my father grew up in Greece and that they brought me and brother here to see where they grew up. My mother told the manager that if they kept this up, they would lose a lot of business and tourism from the US would drop. The manager then told the man behind the counter to give us as many tickets as we wanted. Giving us a dirty look, he gave us our tickets and we were on our way. To us it was an obvious "slight" toward Americans.
