747 Doing Touchngoes At Koma

Fri Mar 07, 2003 4:13 am

Just came back from class and saw a 747 at about 1600' MSL right above the IWCC campus. Anybody know what is going on? It was white with some blue stripes, and i think there was a little logo on the tail.

That looks just right. Why is this plane doing low approaches in OMA?

No wait, they are based at Offutt AFB. I guess they use it because its close by and has a runway long enough with less traffic

Would someone be kind enough to explain the function of the E-4B?

It was an E-4. They do touch & go's all the time at Eppley, no big surprise. They are based at Offutt AFB, so they are not an uncommon sight in the sky above Omaha.

The E-4 is an airborne command plane, possibly used by the President or high-ranking military officials during times of nuclear war. Details are classified, of course.  Smile
