SQ 340-500

Sat Mar 08, 2003 7:56 pm

Other than flying non-stop to LA, where else does SQ plan to use 340-500?

I hear that sq have cancelled spares etc, so my bet is on them not getting A345 at all.

Maybe to YVR and SFO. Will SQ use them on the SIN-CDG route?

No , SQ will not use them for the SIN-CDG route. They have the 777-200ER for that. The A340-500 was bought specifically for the nonstop longhaul from SIN to West Coast USA (SFO/LAX). I think it is still very much in the works that SQ will be getting these aircrafts.

I believe an SQ insider has just confirmed that SQ will be getting the aircraft in November or December 2003 and will initially be using them on the Singapore - Los Angeles route before attempting to use them on the Singapore - New York (non-stop) route.

I dont believe what the rumours spreading about SQ wanting to get rid of A340-500 until there are offical news regarding this issue .

Anyway , I can't wait to see the A340-500 .Too many B777s can be boring .

I had never heard about those rumours of SQ cancelling their A345 orders... so far.
But I don't believe it. California and the Canadian West Coast are two top markets for SIA. So a non-stop flights to LAX/SFO/YVR do make sense.
But as far as I know they intended to keep the Megatop on those routes as the A345 were meant to be two-class only flights, First & Raffles.

But I can't wait to see the first A345 in service !

Cancelling spares is one thing.

Cancelling frames is something else.

Hi Singapore 777,

[...]before attempting to use them on the Singapore - New York (non-stop) route.

I can't imagine SQ will try to use it on SIN-JFK?!? That's 9537mls and only capable with a maximum payload of about 20%.

Or will they use a 50 seats, first class only arrangement on the A345?  Big grin

I've never heard this, but it would certainly be welcome news if true! It'd make much more sense for SQ to operate the 772LR on its transpac nonstops; and I wouldnt be surprised to see them consider it in the long run, as the 772LR had not been launched at the time SQ ordered its A345s.

Be interesting to know if Boeing's behind this.... perhaps a repeat of the famous "SQ-F.U." to Airbus? Big grin

I doubt Boeing has enough money to waste for another deal of this kind.

Well the A345 is going to be in service in November 2003.

What does SQ-F.U. to Airbus mean? SQ - fuck you Airbus? (about the A343 for 772 thing?)

Also, it has been mentioned that SIA is interested in SIN - NYC. This is indeed more or less a safe rumour to go with.

Some great rumours here but a few facts.

SIA confirmed the A340-500 order last year for 5 firm and 5 options. The aircrafts first commercial service was due on Nov 3 2003 but now appears more likely to be in Dec 2003. Boeing may well be brewing some ideas but the A340-500 will join SIA in the forseeable future, as the A343 did except for 2.

Management pilots and engineers have more or less been confirmed for the fleet. Line pilots can now apply to join the fleet. First courses in Toulouse will be in about 3 months.

First flights will be to Los Angeles and once a daily service has been established non-stop flights to New York will follow via the pole. This is confirmed by an internal memo.

There are no plans as yet for non-stops to San Francisco. Vancouver was never on the cards. The route has minor high yield and originating traffic from Singapore. Vancouver survives because of the stop in Seoul.

Cheers

Will those still be First/Raffles only service ??

How long will the JFK flight be ?? I thought it'd be out of reach.
