DFW-CLE On American Eagle CRJ-700!

Mon Mar 10, 2003 7:04 am

American Eagle Flight Number 807 Dallas, TX (DFW) 03/09/2003 09:00 AM Cleveland, OH (CLE) 03/09/2003 11:49 AM 00:00 Bombardier CRJ 700
Two and a half hours on a CR7 does not "fly" with me. And since when did AE bring back the CR7s back into their fleet?

It was discussed on an earlier thread. We have a Saturday DTW-DFW ER4 flight. GRR-DFW service is AE service also.

Since when did Eagle take the CR7s out of their fleet?

The CRJ is pretty decent on longer stretches, I've found...but I'm 5'8". I think regional jets are uncomfortable, for the most part, and definitely not suited for larger passengers. I'll take a CRJ, but NEVER an ERJ for a longer flight.

FYI, AE uses more CRJs on longer flights, I think, than ERJs. They fly both into and out of MKE.

I've flown on CO Express from CLE to DFW twice now and the ERJ is a great little aircraft on that flight. I know it isn't the same as a CRJ, but still, it was not that bad of an experience. Granted, the plane was not full on either flight and I got the exit row seat but overall, a great little jet!

Yeah I was just about to post regarding the CO Express. It's odd though they fly the CRJ to CLE but fly the F100/RJ to DAY S80 to CMH and I think F100/S80 to CIN

Yes, I will agree with you guys on the longer flights, the regional jets are not that great. I like the aircraft plenty, but I am 74" in height and my long legs don't cram in to a CRJ very well. I flew on a ERJ-130 once from PHX to SJC. That flight was good, but I think much longer than that, and I would have really been feeling it.

I was wondering about those CRJ7s where they were.

Cincinnati no longer sees mainline American Airlines aircraft. The 3 F-100s that ran between DFW and CVG have been replaced with 4 ERJ-145s. Dayton currently has 3 flights to DFW, 2 with F-100s and 1 with a CR7. As of April 6, CMH will have 6 nonstops to DFW, 4 on MD-80s and 2 on ERJ-145s.

The CRJ-700's went into service last spring for American Eagle. They are solely based out of DFW and have been replacing mostly former ATR-72 and F-100 routes. There are only a few of the CR7's in the fleet.

bye-bye mainline CLE-DFW

I knew the day was coming soon where we'd see RJ's on DTW-DFW on AA, yuck. Good thing is only weekends for now. Man, back in the day I flew on a 762 DTW-DFW.

There hasnt been mainline CLE-DFW sevice on CO for almost a year and a half, there has been anywhere from 4 to 5 145s a day doing the run. Also, this is not goodbye to mainline in CLE they still continue to have the STL and MIA mainline services.

If any other Eagle station is wanting to give up their ERJs/CRJs to DFW...I know a few at the TOL station that would bend over backwards for them. Then they would actually have seats on their ORD flights to sell to destinations other than DFW.  Smile

Redngold, COEX currently flies 4 daily departures CLE-DFW, all with the ERJ145. Mainline service to DFW stopped in Octorber or November of 2001.

AA has 4 MD-80s and a CRJ-700 to DFW and CO has 4 ERJ-145s a day.

Other than not having a front cabin..it's not that bad.

I see that the seat width is just the same as the 737/757..althought the aisle is a bit narrower.

I've flown ASA's from IAH to ATL a couple times. No big difference inflight.

In fact the cramped shoulder space is very reminescent of the A32X family.

It's interesting that Delta Connection has two lavatories on their CRJ700s, one up front and one in the back. American Eagle only has one in the back.

I just find it hard to believe that CLE can't support mainline service to AA's largest hub. Wow, wonder if it has more to do with CLE landing fees than the economics of the route. Yeah I know CO offers 4 dailies, but DFW offers service to many west coast, TX, and Mexico destinations that aren't served from CLE.

Funny, I don't feel any more cramped on a CR7 (or EM4 for that matter) than I do on any mainline jet. Call me crazy, but I don't see any difference in comfort.... With the exception of MRTC, of course!

Can't support mainline service? They fly MD-80s to STL, DFW and MIA from Cleveland. The only fly 1 RJ a day to DFW and besides that Eagle flies to JFK and ORD from here. The morning lineup usually includes 3 MD-80s, 4 ERJs, and a Saab or 2.

I rode a CRJ from CVG to DCA this past weekend, and I hit my head every time I got up no matter how hard I tried not to.

I also felt very enclosed... and hated not being able to see out the window really.

Yes AE chose CRJs for their 70+ seat RJ and ERJ for 50 or below... for obvious reasons, the CRJ70 was much farther along than the EMB 170 at the time they made the choice.

EMBRAER really wants us to believe that the EMB 170 will be roomier than the CRJ70. I hope so.

Trivia fact: At CVG this weekend, I obviously saw lots of CRJs. The CRJ 100/200 seems to have its APU exhaust on the side of the aircraft under/next to one of the engines. The CRJ70 has it in the tailcone.

I have flown American Eagle CRJ 700s many times between DFW-MKE. They are very comfortable and extremely fast. Yes, they are a little smaller than a MD-80/DC-9 inside but certainly not that big of a difference for an hour and a half flight. I think you will be pleasantly surprised on the flight and American Eagle does a great job with their service!!

Enjoy the CRJ! Awesome airplane!

I usually follow AA and not AE, but now I will have to try to get a flight on this bird. I knew about the 135/140/145's, but was unaware of the CRJ700's. I love this bird and look forward to flying on one.

The CRJ700 is a wonderful plane to fly on. The ones operated by HP express even have a first class cabin.
