Now Part Of The United Family

Tue Mar 11, 2003 1:40 am

Well, a little kid's dream of working for an airline is finally coming true. I just got hired for a part-time ramp position at PHLBig grin Tomorrow I fly to Chicago to get a physical and all that other stuff, and my start date is at the end of March. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice or helped me out in anyway. I look forward to seeing some of you around the airport!

Jon,
Great news! Glad to hear that things are working in your favor. You are still coming spotting with us on the 29th right?

Well, I think I spoke a little too soon. I may actually have to turn down the offer because of school. I go to school on Mondays and Wednesdays, and right now looking at when I have to be there it just might not work out.

Congrats, the hardest thing to do in the airline industry is getting your foot in the door.

On the same note I just got hired by jetBlue today. I start on April 7 in LGB.

I plan to go to University of Minnesota, possibly I can get a job with NWA as a ramp agent or something part time. I really doubt it though, NWA is laying off everyone, but they are keeping there hundreds of CEOs who get like $3 million a year!  Yeah sure

Congratulations I guess. Hopefully it works out with your school. One thing I don't get. We have rampers on the street in ORD with early 1999 seniority, yet UA is still hiring off the street a few states away. Interesting. More power to ya anyways. Good luck.

Congratulations on the new job, I know you will enjoy every moment of it. I was hired as a ramper with America West 8 months ago, and I it has been one of the best experiences of my life. Sadly, since HP is closing its CMH hub, I will be furloughed as of mid April. The best of luck to you, and have fun.

NWA can't have 100, or 10, or 2 CEOs. They have one. And he's doing a pretty damn good job considering...

I made a choice once about school vs. work. I chose work, and was able to get back to school not much later. It turned out to be the best decision of my entire life.

You should be able to balance the two, it just may not work out day one. Good luck.

Of course they don't have 100 CEOs I was joking.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy But they do have a lot of "top" guys who get payed A LOT of money, they even rip on them here on MSP news!

Well, they've delayed my hiring to the beginning of May when I get out of school. Hopefully nothing happens in the course of that time to where I can't work there anymore. According to UALPHLCS, they are hiring because they are getting rid of their policy that mechanics do dispatch and receipt, and are turning those duties over to ramp. They were hiring for 6 positions when I went in. They are also hiring CSR's as I just found out. To answer Deltaownsall's questions, you do have to be 18 years old, and have at least gone past 10th grade. It's actually a pretty weird feeling knowing that you don't even have to graduate high school to get a job like that.
