Now That's A Repulsive Airbus Commercial ...

Sat Mar 15, 2003 6:51 am

... but funny!  Big thumbs up
Mind the details, such as the appearance of the aircraft (are both of them actually Airbus'?), the child "crossing the border" at the end of the commercial and the embarrassment of one lonesome employee.

Yeah. It's repulsive. Especially since some of us avoid Airbus like the plague. I've flown 7X7s, -9s and variants, and A3XXs, and I have to say I'd rather fly American because they're more comfortable and laid out better (at least in my experiences).

Sorry, Airbus, but I'll fly Boeing whenever I can!

Nothing repulsive about it. It's just an ad. This thread is what's a waste of space.

He's allowed to have an opinion, and this forum is for discussing aviation. That is a commercial for an aviation company, so your rebuke of this thread is the real waste of space.

As for the commercial, I have no real opinion.

There are a couple technical errors. First of all, why did they use an airbus airplane at the other airline's gate also? It gives an impression that their A300/310 line sucks! Next, the passengers board from a jetway, but board on stairs. I can see why they did this - to show off their plane, but it is not very accurate.

Yeah, multimillion dollar plane and a $100 commercial, but at least it was an aviation commercial, you don't get to see many of those from an actual manufacturer.

Funny response, Boeing4ever. "He's allowed to have an opinion, and this forum is for discussing aviation. That is a commercial for an aviation company, so your rebuke of this thread is the real waste of space."

So my opinion is invalid? Talk about double standards...

What is the other plane supposed to be, the one at Gate 20? From the nose of it, looks like another Airbus! lol....

Exactly, Brons2 and Ag737, I really think it is just another Airbus with old-style engines (silver, no paint) and a yellowed fuselage. When you look closely, the plane appears as a duckling as if they have shorten the landing gear (most likely some computer work).
Maybe they have choosen another Airbus to avoid a restraining order or similar legal steps.

This thread is what's a waste of space.
I'm sorry to hear that, Ilyushin, but if you don't like discussing aviation commercials, I'm sure there is another "The most beautiful f/a" thread around. Big grin

Well it seems to me that the A300/310 is not made in passenger variant anymore (at least they don't want to sell any), so of course they are going to push the A340, even at the possible expense of the A300/310 passenger versions. They are not going to put a competitor's product up there as that starts to become libelous/slanderous.

Oh well, I don't see how it's THAT bad. I mean Airbus just wants to play dirty. If I was a CEO of an airline, or aircraft mfg. I would do something like that. Wouldn't you? Think about it... the message they're trying to send to promote their product is clear. But I still like "Fly Douglas Aircraft" some of the commercials McDonnell Douglas, as well as Douglas put out were not bad at all. I think the aircraft at gate 20 is a 767. I'm almost 100% sure it's a 767-XXX, not sure what model 767 it is.

Thanks Much,
Daniel

Okay, okay . . .so what do we have here? An Airbus ad, not that bad, kind of humorous in a way, and probably not humerous depending on how much it offends any die-hard Boeing or Airbus fan. Although, I can't figure out why Airbus would use an A300-type a/c as the "dog" in their own commercial. Airbus is still producing the A300, albiet mostly cargo versions, but just made a bunch of pax versions in the last three years.

Even so, I still couldn't see Boeing making a commercial like this using one of their own a/c as the "what-not-to-fly-on" a/c.

Instead of getting into the obvoius nitty gritty here, I just wanted to point out a couple of my own notes of interest: First of all, the plane on the left looks like an A300 with ERJ-170 engines (they look smaller than normal). Secondly, not that it matters, has anybody else noticed the A300 Super Transporter in the background as they show the people boarding the A340. It's to the left, in front of the large buildings.

Does anybody know when is this advertisement aired and to whom does it target?

Also,

it seems like the passangers are about to go thourgh a gate, and then
the next cut shows them boarding the plane through air-stairs..

AFAIK, it is the most recent ad but I could't find an exact date.
Airbus says, they would make TV ads "in order to communicate with the Customers of its Customers."

Thanks NoUFO for the quick response.

I wonder why Airbus is thinking. . ."Airbus says, they would make TV ads "in order to communicate with the Customers of its Customers."

My friends, coworkers, cousins? They all fly all the time, but they hardly care what they're flying on.

Airbuses "target market" would have to be preety small I'm guessing. Maybe it's the business fliers who fly all the time and have somewhat of an idea of what Boeing and Airbus makes. . .I guess. . .but that still isn't figuring to me.

Well to me that commercial is just a waste.... its full of errors like the ones listed above, including the gate 20 a/c beeing another airbus from the looks of it, the pax goin throu a gate then up the airstairs, all that crap... Plus I had to play it over a few times trying to figure out what their point was...
As ussual Id take a Boeing over an Airbus anyday!

They have to use an own aircraft, as if they would use a Boeing, Boeing could sue them. Remember, this is aimed at the average customer, not an aviation fan. The average customers get it this way: "Airbus good, other aircraft bad", they don't know anything about the type of the other plane. Airbus wants to place their brand in the minds of the pax.

With regard to the issue of the bridge/stairs, if you look at the opening scene of the advertisement, you will see very clearly that the aircraft is not attached to any bridge at all, but sitting with stairs up against it. The area passengers are walking into is to is not an aerobridge at all, but the stairs down to tarmac level.

As for the advert itself, both manufacturers constantly say how everyone prefers their respective aircraft, and wouldn't want to travel on the competition, so I don't really see what the problem is.

Careful throwing the term "double standards" around as you see NoUFO's opinions as invalid. If you don't like the thread, why waste your time bitching about it. Certain users on these forums like attack others for posts they see as "low quality". Your "opinion" was an attack.

The reason why the "dog" aircraft is not a Boeing, is that Airbus doesn't want legal trouble. Be honest, these days, lawsuits start from almost nothing. And Boeing could use the money.
