Worst Flight You Ever Had?

Sat Mar 15, 2003 7:38 am

So please tell: What is the worst flight you ever had? Mine was landing on slippery ice at KKN quite a few years back. To get sand to stick to the ice on the runway, they heat the sand. But this day they forgot to heat it. And yes, we did see the end of the runway, that day. It was behind us.

My worst flight was on Southwest, or on Air Ukraine. I'm just not sure, I received not so good service, and that really gets to me.

Ryanair...
This past summer on a London-Treviso (Venice) flight we were some of the first to check in and last to board... Chaos at the gate as induced by passengers and employees, horrible service, uncomfortable seats, little leg room, etc. was just the start. Upon approach into Treviso the airport lights went INOP. after circling for an hour waiting for a mechanic to get them working, the pilot made the call to divert to Marco Polo - a decision cheered by half the passengers and booed by the other half... while on final descent into Marco Polo, the lights returned at Treviso and we proceeded to turn back. arriving at 11 PM in Trevsio, we were over an hour and a half late and found ourselves forced to ride a bus into the city... I knew the rumors about Ryanair werent good, but the service was twice as bad as it seems. Everything costs a penny or, in Ryanair's case onboard, quite a few...

Aer Lingus/American - Winter 1994

Well we checked in and everything was fine and dandy. Great christmas visit with the family! We said our good byes and made out way to the gate. It said delayed on the screen next to our flight...That changed into "more info at 12:30" I heard my dad say "oh S#it" I knew it wasnt good. Apprently and engine was broken on the aging airplane and we were delayed 8 HOURS!!! we missed out connecting flight to SFO in JFK....We finally boarded at 8:30 pm and I wasnt so sure of the engine...I saw mechanics working on it AS we were boarding...My then 3-year old sister put up a HUGE temper tanturm over her seatbelt and tried to smack a flight attendant! The flight attendant didnt mind much...anyway, okay flight...i slept most of it, my mom told me of some really bad turbulence though. We arrived in New York and we were put in a hotel over night. we woke up at 6 am and made our way to the airport to find our connecting flight had been cancelled due to weather!!!!!! My parents were pissed and started yelling at the check-in agent, telling them that their 4 children had been up for so many hours and we were suppossed to be home yesterday and I thought it was all an act at the time, but I know now it wasnt. They found a flight with United to SFO at 5 pm...I boarded, fell asleep to my sister crying over her seatbelt...again. My dad woke me up to watch the decent into SFO. Nice ending to a really bad trip home

26th of Feb i was on a flight to Tel Aviv (LY 028),
the flight was fine until the last two hours.
i was seatting in the Upper Deck of the 744 (which by the way - had a woman fo - the first for ELAL) and starting with about 2 hours before touchdown i started feeling very bad, and very weak. i eneded up spending the next three days throwing-up every few hours...

cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

Worst flight ever for me would have to be on a Southwest 737-200 from LAX to MSY back in 1996. The flight was a 2-stop direct one via ELP and HOU. As it turned out, we had a 3-hour delay in ELP due to heavy storms in the HOU area. Just a terrible, uncomfortable experience. Total trip time was about 8.5 hours. Wayyyy too long on a 737.

Lloyd Aereo Boliviano flight from Cochabamba, Bolizia to Santa Cruz, Bolivia (1998). 727-100 with open overhead bins, many "unofficial" characters hanging around and inside the cockpit before and during flight.

ASA flight from ATL to LYH. Flight 4152. Returning home from Europe. Virbrations and incessent turbulance of the Turboprop upset by stomach. Exhausted from the 24 hours of travel and unable to rest comfortably in the unreclinable seats. Service was great as always, but the day had worn me out.

Ralphed (Puked) when I to my house...nevertheless felt great the next day...back in the states!

A Kuwait airways A340-300 from kuwait to Cairo. The captain had to do a go around two times for some reason. The funny thing is I wasn't the only one onboard that felt sick and throwd up every 15min. It was pretty much all the people onboard and flight was full to the max too. When the plane landed every body just got up from their seats and wanted to get off that plane badly,we weren't even at the gates yet.

Dirty plane, worn-out seats, rude flight attendants who basically just threw the food tray to you (and without asking for choices). I was quite fortunate to get a meal with meat (the food sucked btw), but not my seat-mate who got veggie option, although she's not vegetarian. When one of the FAs was offering coffee, I politely asked for tea, and she shouted back to me, "I only have coffee now!! No tea!! If you want tea, wait!! I'll come back later!!" I was shocked to hear that....

My worst flight was JFK to BGI on BWIA 737, the flight was full and my seat was in the row before the window emergency exisits. The seats could not recline my back hurt and the woman infront had her seat reclined all the way back making me feel cramped. After about 2 1/2 hours I started to ge aggitated but was able to clam down, I was never so happy to get off a plane in my life.

Worst flight? How about this:

I was flying non-rev on Vanguard from MCI to ATL last June. I got an upgrade to business class for free (helps that I dated the CSA!), and was surprised to find that a beautiful, 23 year old model, who had been in LA after flying from MDW via MCI the previous week, and was on her way to ATL for some kind of fashion show.

I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world, until about ten minutes into the flight, when I found out that this young woman was the most shallow creature I've ever met! Very beautiful, but, shall we say, the "stereotypical inner-city American black girl." Everything was about who she met in LA and hanging out with all the thuga' rappers on the beach and her boyfriend that she knew was cheating on her but it would look bad if she dumped him because he's so cute and on the Illinois State basketball team and on and on and on... After twenty more minutes, I had a massive headache and pulled out my trusty Ibuprofen bottle and downed three tablets.

She didn't get the hint and continued to chatter away. The flight was completely full and so there was no where to move. I got into ATL and got on the MARTA, went to my sister's place and played with my 18 month old neice for the whole weekend! Thank God I didn't see her on my return!

Mine was a Canada 3000 737 flight into Montreal Dorval about 2 years ago.. Winds were so strong the pilot was unable to turn the plane into the direction of the runway... we rocked while the engines grinded... people threw up and everyone was white knuckled and silent.. the pilot aborted the landing and chose another runway where we landed normally.. I was glad to get off safely.

Elwood, are you silly? A 23 year old fox with no brain and you spent the weekend paying with your neice? I admire your celibacy and restraint but..........

We were PCSing from Aviano and our flight took us to PHL. There was no running water in the lav (yet a half inch of standing water on the floor). No hot water for coffee. And a kid who puked on the seat in front of me 4 hours into the flight. Try flying the next 6 hrs with that smell.

Not to mention I really had to take a dump also!

Air India on the NRT-DEL-BOM route back in 1995.

Let's see we left Tokyo about three hours late landed in Delhi waited for about an hour when the pilot came on saying there was a technical problem so we left DEL about two hours late than after landing in BOM we had to wait on the tarmac for 40 minutes due to no gates being available for the 747-300 Combi.

I will say Air India has improved a lot since 1995 but flying from Tokyo to Mumbai is not something I would ever do again. It's not fun to be with Air India when your flight is five hours late.

From reading a lot of these posts I see a lot of people getting upset over really pointless things.

Screaming at an airport agent because a flight was cancelled due to weather.
a) At least you're not going to die
b) The agent didn't do it
c) The agent can't fix it
d) If your flight is cancelled due to weather, you're far from the only person experiencing delays. Individual airlines generally do not cancel flights due to weather. This is from a higher level and the airline has no responsibility for your inconvenience - they didn't do it.

Mechanical delays...
a) Would you rather be delayed, or dead?
b) Mechanics working on something whilst the passengers are boarding. I'd personally find this comforting to know the problem is being addressed and corrected.
c) Parts may well take a while to get to the airport. Most airlines aren't in the habit of keeping a plane around for parts, nor stocking every possible piece of an airplane at every airport they service.

This stuff happens, you know it's possible when you purchase the ticket. There is however no excuse for poor or unprofessional service from agents, cabin crews, or any other representatives of any airline or any other company for that matter.

Just remember, no one can change the weather and even the best-maintained machines still have problems once in a while.

My worst flight was MAN-ATL on Delta in '97.

Not necessarily DL's fault, but the teachers of the 12 year old schoolkids who entertained everyone with their shouting for 8 hours Sad

I once experienced a 4-in-a-row flight cancellation string on America West due to....broken toilets. I began to think this was a generic excuse they gave...can anyone from HP confirm or deny this and has anyone else had a rash of malfunctioning lavs on HP planes? The irony to this...they finally repro'd me on NW and they cancelled 3 flights in a row for me due to various maintenance issues, including, yes, a broken toilet..

MIA - LHR (BA 744, Y) beg 2001: the flight was 100% full.
After 2.5 hrs delays we boarded (I had a middle seat, with a guy that caughed all night long. The person in front of me was reclined until landing, I really had a bad time there because even the food was below my expectations (for BA I had much better experiences). And no PTV.
No sleep at all. Very bad working day afterwards !

Hello,

My worst flight took place on AIR CANADA-February 20, 2003 from YYZ-FCO. It was Old B-767-300 (ex canadian) The flight was delayed for 2 hours, the staff was extremely rude and impatient. The service was horrible, the food was disgusting not to mention that we did not have much to eat.

We were a group and AC did not do anything to sit us together. I tried a few times over the phone, at the airport...nothing was done to help us. The only thing I got was a horrible, rude, ""I don't give a f... about your problem''' service.

No wonder why AC is having problems. Like many people are saying " the only problem with AC staff is us, the passengers. Once again, is is unbelievable how rude the staff is on AC. I have an aeroplan card and believe me, I will use my 2 free tickets and throw it in the garbage. Never again with Air canada

A couple, I wished I'd never boarded:

Ryanair 732 Stansted - Dinard in '01. Oil pouring from r/h engine all the way...despite advising the crew, we watched the plane turn around in 30 minutes, without either the Commander or F.O. taking a walk about.

KLM MD-11 Amsterdam-Montreal in '98. Full flight. We pushed back from the gate and all the way to the holding point the flaps were constantly extended and then retracted...Obviously the captain was cycling them as something was wrong...I was thinking...if those things retract at V1 we're done for. We lined up and after an agonizing 30 seconds, the captain announced we were returning to the gate due to a technical problem...groans from about 300pax; sigh of absolute bloody relief from 1pax. After an hour of tinkering we departed safely, but the MD-11 is a noisy beast if your seated in the back

Hi,

my worst flight was on British Midland Airways in 1998. I flew together with a part of my class to GB for a Language-course.
The FA's were unfriendly and the food was ugly. After departure in LHR we had to wait about a half hour on the forefield until a plane-position was free. During that time the cabinheater was on full power and it was as hood as in a sauna

AA 727 DFW-CLE. The reasons why this was my worst flight ever are:

1.I did not get a window seat.
2.I got stuck in the middle seat between two rather large fellas.
3.It was August, the flight was full and well a planefull of sweaty people does'nt smell too great.

I will miss the 727 though.

Tuninter MLA-TUN-MLA on Boeing 737-2H6 Advanced, TS-IEA. While I generally love 732s, this particular example looked like it had been taken directly out of a junkyard. The seats had ten-year-old covers which were accordingly torn and damaged, windows were so scratched and damaged that one could hardly see a thing and some bright mind had painted (!) the cabin interior with what seemed the standard paint for ships. The excessive noise emitted by this machine which was not hushkitted to Stage III compliance was also a big nuisance. Brr... I'll never forget these two flights!
